I am thrilled to have Kathleen as my guest today for the first official “Author Spotlight” Blog. Today is 12/6/12, which carries a special significance in the balance of the universe. I love dates like 08/08/08, 10/11/12, and 12/06/12. Such a cool symmetry.
I did an author spotlight last month 11-16-12 with the talented and beautiful Michelle Miles. That gave me the idea and so “Author Spotlight” was born.
Welcome Author Kathleen Grieve. She is a nurse. She also shares the common talent of watching horror movies like I do….hands over her eyes asking “what’s happening now?” She is a fellow Zombie enthusiast. Kathleen we must talk about “Walking Dead”. She says her romances are spicy. Honey, your heroine dreaming of the hero painting her in body chocolate. Whooo wheee. So, I knew I had to have her come visit today. She is going to be giving away one ebook copy of her current release “The Doctor’s Deception” to one lucky random person. Make a comment for your chance to win.
Kathleen, share a little bit about your writing talent with us:
1. Who is your favorite character in your books and why?
Usually it is the character that is the most emotionally bruised and has lost the most. It’s probably the nurturer in me, but I need to fix people, which is probably why I am so good at my job as a nurse.
2. What inspires you for your stories?
People. I’m a huge people watcher and as I see what’s happening in a crowd around me, my mind starts to wander and I think, “What would happen if…”
3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.
I don’t have any true secrets…but only a few people know what a big chicken I am. In high school I loved to watch scary movies, but in the last ten years, I always leave a movie theater as the music escalates and something bad is about to happen. Can’t help it. Then I whisper, “What happened?” and get shushed. LOL.
4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?
I write contemporary medical romances that are not quite erotic, but they are on the spicy side. I’m currently dabbling in a paranormal that I’ve been working out the details with my crit partner and after my Dating Series is completed for Evernight Publishing—I have 3 books planned so far. Dating 911 is already available and I’m almost ready to submit Dating Impossible. And the series will end with Dating Trouble. But I will focus on my paranormal series of stories next.
5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?
I’ve always written something—even started college as a journalism major chasing that who-what-why-when-and where. Wrote for my college newspaper, too. But the job market was extremely tough and midway through school, I was talked in to being a nurse. Yes—talked into it. My first clinical experience scared me so bad, I about ran from the patient’s room. I went home in tears saying over and over, “I can’t do this…” But you know what? I found I could be a nurse. And it was the best thing in the world because now, twenty years later, I am able to merge both loves in my writing.
The Doctor’s Deception Blurb:
Hard-headed, straight-laced Dr Stone Lassiter is one heart surgeon about to lose everything he’s worked his entire career for. He is locked in a battle of wills against the nurses of the surgical intensive care unit of Deerborne County General. At first, the new doctor was definitely drool-worthy. Sexy or not, the nurses have had enough! Their secret weapon? Unsuspecting SICU nurse, Faith Daniels, a cool green-eye blonde that turns Dr. Lassiter’s head every time she’s near. Poor Faith has the “worst luck” in drawing the short straw and is forced to work with Dr. Lassiter repeatedly. Will the nurses’ plan to have Dr. Lassiter fall in love with one of their own work in softening him toward the nursing staff? Or will the little white lie Stone tells Faith to enlist her aid to obtain his goal destroy the fragile bond of love that has developed between them?
Faith moaned and woke to the constant chiming of her doorbell and pounding on the front door. The wonderful, erotic dream of Stone painting her with melted chocolate burst.
She lifted her head and glanced at her clock. 7:00a.m. Groaning, she pulled the covers over her head and rolled onto her stomach, trying to recapture her fantasy. Maybe whoever it was would go away if she ignored them.
Ding-dong… Ding-dong… Ding-dong…
“Oh, give it a rest already!” she yelled, climbing out of bed. The cool morning air hit her bare legs and arms, and she shivered.
She reached the front door and yanked it open.
Stone Lassiter stood on her step, hand in air, ready to pound the unrelenting wood again.
Staring, her fogged brain tried to wake up. Hadn’t he just been in her room?
No, that wasn’t real you nit-wit!
“You! What’s the big idea? Do you realize how early it is? It’s my day off!”
Not to mention, I was in the middle of the best dream of my life.
