New Web Page – Debut

Hello my friends.

I’m spending the day in the mountains and since my mind can’t seem to focus on what I SHOULD be doing…which is WRITING/EDITING, “Dragon Guardian” …er ahhh.  Well, I redesigned my web page.

A lot of the previous plug in’s that WordPress offers did not work on the new template. Take a look and let me know what you think about it.

I’d love to have your comments from a reader stand point, or marketing and promotion, or just your opinion.

I’d have extra “LOVE” if someone could tell me how to get a WordPress template that has a way to put the book covers on the page and link to a background page for the blurb etc I’d be ever so happy. Right now the books page scrolls down. That’s fine when you only have two or three books. I’ve not got six and three more coming this spring. It’s getting a bit cumbersome!

So that is all my friends. Make I can dig into those edits now. I am anxious to hear your comments. There might be a prize for the best comment of the weekend!

Marketing the Author Brand

I am so thrilled I just received my banner and stand to use in guest appearances this spring.Image

I will be able to use it for the library presentation Jill and I are doing at the Public Library titled “The Joy of Reading and Writing or The Kama Sutra of Literacy”.  I also have a presentation called “Writing Short is the New Big”.

Then, looking forward to having an opening event at some of the local indy book stores.

Promotion Opportunity for Facebook Fans

Carl Franklin the graphic arts ninja at Rebel Ink Press has created such beautiful covers for me I had to find a way to use them in addition to their primary purpose as book covers.

So I created a banner with my covers, tag line, website.

This is designed as a facebook page banner.  Here is the deal.  Post this banner as YOUR banner for four days that’s right (4) days. One day in symbolic tribute to each of my published titles.  If you post it for four days as your banner than I will put you in for a random drawing.  The winner of the drawing gets to choose one of my E-ARC (advanced readers copy) for any title they like.

Here is the beautiful banner. Remember to contact me so that you can go into the drawing.

Masterful Job

Two things this week.  Daughter and I went to the movies a couple of times this week.

Hunger Games!  I have to applaud the marketing job that was done for the release of this movie.  Books and merchandising leading up the the actual movie was PHENOMENAL!

You reached the apex and there was no choice but to go see the movie. Months ahead of time, trailers were out, action figure dolls, jewlery, posters, etc.

There is a cook book out, behind the making off the movie book with photos. We already knew and loved the world. The characters were already friends from the mass marketing thrust.

Symbolism that we could relate to.  I mean who would not want to wear a mockingjay pin for good luck. Seriously. And I know where you can get one.

I saw this trend starting as much as 11 years ago with the beginning of the Harry Potter franchise. Marvelous job but a little bit response drivin. Twillite was a bit more timely with all the “extras” but pieces of it were still reactionary.

It was almost like they weren’t sure how big this was going to get and got caught a little surprised. Perhaps the conversation sounded a little bit like, this is getting out of control. That’s great what can we give them next.

Hunger Games?  Well, a masterful job, the campaign was extremely well plotted. I am in awe. I can imaging the conversation here was more like, We are going to make this big, really Big, We can do this, and that. etc.  I love the plan executed to perfection.

If I ever have a book make it big, I want Suzanne Collins’ publicist on my team.

Oh, yes and we loved the movie and the books. All the classic themes are there in a refreshing original, creative concept. Great job, Kudos Ms. Collins. You’ve been added to my fan girl list of mentors.
