Eden Glenn Welcomes Joey W. Hill This Week

Joey W. Hill is coming to my blog as a guest. No you don’t get it. JOEY W. Freakin HILL is coming to my blog for a visit.  I’ve been a fan for a long time. Can you tell?  I contacted her some years ago expressing my fandom in a non-creapy way. (I hope). I had read one of her books (the first for me)…okay the name escapes me at the moment. However, the emotion still remains with me and raises the hairs on the back of my arms with it’s realism and eroticism. I was like WOW~! WOWWWzer.

It was before I was published. She had such kind words of encouragement that thrilled me and made me whisper “really?” LOL

I am so proud to be part of her blog tour and welcome her to my humble “home” as a guest for her upcoming December 3rd release of “Unrestrained”.

Stay Tuned!

There are many opportunities for adventure in the Asheville areas of Western North Carolina.  Here are a few that I’ve noticed while reading the Sunday Paper. Yes, Virginia, they still make newspapers.

From the Asheville Citizen Times of Sunday November 12, 2013

Original article can be found here:

Paraphrased from the article. Audience Dies Laughing at ‘Zombies” Cullowee is hosting the World premiere of “Zombies on Campus! A Slaughterpocalypse!” this is a comedic play written and directed by a professor D.V. Caitlyn of the Western Carolina Faculty. It is a 90 minute performance bu tje WCU School of Stage and Screen at Western. It is being performed 7:30 nightly through Tuesday 11/19/13 at the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center of Western Carolina University $7. pre purchase of $10. at the door. Warning performances have been sold out. call 828-227-2479 or see http://theatretickets.wcu.edu on line for more information

The Times said this is a “play within a play beginning during the theatre students’ rehearsal of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”.”

From the Western Carolina University Website

“The curse of MacBeth meets undead lore via vegetarian cuisine in Zombies on Campus! A SlaughterPocalypse!, a new play by D. V. Caitlyn.
It’s like a nightmare: An ancient curse cooked up in the University’s very own dining hall is ground-zero of an undead outbreak spreading right now like a super-virus across the entire campus! And the only thing standing between college life as we know it and a bloody apocalyptic slaughter is … a handful of theatre majors and some guy named Leon!”

“Beward: ‘Possum Drop Critters have organized, planned rally”

Brasstown evidently drops a possum at the stroke of midnight on News Year’s Eve. Those activities have been protested and attempts to block the event by PETA have cost the state something like $75,000 in legal fees.

In answer to PETA’s concerns for frightened possums “Ahave you ever seen a possum that wasn’t terrified?”

Now I’m thinking possum drop is an exaggeration. Before you shriek in horror. It is much more like a possum lowering…slowly. The fireworks have been moved down the road. They shoot off the muskets before the star possum is brought out. Last year they had to put a picture of a possum in the cage instead of a real one.

However, back to the article at hand. Evidently the possums have had enough and desire their right to fame. The gyst of it is producing something like a possum right to work bill.

The quote in this article that had me rolling over and playing dead is

“Do you relize how hard it is to get respect and recognition when you have hair that is slicked down like Brylcreem, a pointy nose and a hairless tail?”…. “Now PETA wants to deprive us of our one minute of notoriety. We have a right to be dropped!”

Never fear the article continues, I quote “Clay Logan who holds the possum drop at his store ‘Clay Corner’ said he is familiar with Barkman (the man assisting the possums in their organizing right to work efforts) and the ‘possums’ organizational efforts.” He continues to say. “I’ve been in contact with this man and he has the ‘possums walking around my house now with little flags that say ‘pick me!” Logan Said “I think they may have formed a union. Who knows? Next time I might have have to pay my ‘possum.”

“Logan says he’s determined to hold a ‘Possum Drop this year, as it is the 20th anniversary. “This year is going to be big– we’re going to spend $200 or maybe even $300”.

It doesn’t end there. Evidently a “nocturnal rally in downtown Asheville” is planned for Nov 27th at 3a.m. It is suggested that “attendance may be sparse”.

Would I love to see a cult following organize and stage a major throw down at this rally dressed as possums with picket signs. That would really be hilarious.

I may just have to attend the 20th Anniversary of the “Possum Drop” this coming year. I mean the budget sounds like they are going all out.

Next for the holiday season. The annual Gingerbread House Competition at the Grove Park Inn. It will be from Nov 20th through Jan 2nd public viewing Sun through Thurs excluding holidays.  Parking is $10 and part of it goes to local charity.

You can never have enough gingerbread house fun. So, The city of Franklin, NC has their own Gingerbred contest planned for the holiday season. More information here on this event.

Happy Monday. Find Your Adventure

Blue is the Warmest Color

SPOILER ALERT

If good movies evoke emotion then this one is a good movie. However, I’m not going to list it as one of the movies I’ve liked. The review called it a “seriously sexy lesbian coming of age movie”.

See Review:

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/05/25/cannes-a-seriously-sexy-lesbian-romance/

Let’s start with that. Seriously sexy? If you like writhing and moaning and action that most lesbians would consider foreplay… then okay. Here’s the bottom line. Think of straight girl on girl light porn sex orchestrated by a middle aged man with lots of ass smacking and grabbing with the writhing and moaning. Yeah, you’ve got it.

And the director and screen play writer had a chance to write something beautiful that diverted from the sterotypical tropes of the lesbian movies of the 80’s and 90’s. You know the ones that conformed to the straight girl meets lesbian, great sex, great love, breaks lesbian’s heart and ends with tragic sadness and perhaps going back to straight guys.

Yep that was the plot in a nutshell. Same old-hat trope of the last two decades. Sad tragic ending of lost soul mates never to be together again.

The movie did make you think and it did evoke emotion. I’m not sure the feelings I walked away from the theatre with were ones that were intended by the producer and director.

This was not a romance. And my opinion as an erotic romance writer, it wasn’t even THAT erotic…unless you’re a middle aged straight guy. Then maybe it was erotic.

EPIC FAIL if you wanted a hot erotic lesbian romance with a happy ending.

I’d love to hear from others who saw this film. What did you think?

Domestic Abuse – You, your neighbor, someone you love.

We all get caught up in day to day drama of our lives. The next book, the next task at work, the next thing we HAVE to do.  Take a moment and hear what Jennifer has to say about this cause and the book she wrote to shed light on the blight of Domestic Abuse.

Thank you so much, Eden, for hosting my book birthday party today! Skin Deep, a contemporary romance published by Whiskey Creek Press, is turning two this month and I’m very excited to celebrate with you.

First, here’s a blurb about it:

The last thing Valerie needs, after escaping an abusive marriage to an alcoholic and rebuilding her life, is a broody, secretive, standoffish man. But that’s exactly what she gets when she becomes a makeup artist on the set of a hit sitcom and draws the attention of the series’ star.

John Samuels hides a terrible past—a life of abuse and neglect. A successful acting career and the affection and support of cast, crew and friends, does nothing to convince him that he is anything other than an unlovable monster.

Will he learn that the life he’s been living has been built on a lie or will he be doomed to repeat the sins of his father?

Here’s an excerpt:

That night, after all the scenes had been shot, Valerie waited for everyone to leave. She didn’t want to answer questions or receive pity.

She arranged and rearranged drawers and tools. The trailer contained three stations, each with its own make-up chair. A long table ran down one wall, with plenty of drawers for storage space. Well-lit mirrors hung above the table. Un-able to find anything else to do, and convinced by the silence that everyone had to have left, she took out her keys to lock up. She jumped as a knock sounded at the door, the trailer rattled, and a head peeked in.

“Valerie?”

“Oh, hi, John.” She expelled a deep breath and willed her heart to slow its frantic beat. “Do you need something?”

“No.” He entered and stood by the door. John Samuels played the lead. At almost six-foot three, he dwarfed the trailer and had to tip his head to fit. He folded his muscular arms across his chest and spread his feet apart. “Michelle told me you were not joining us tonight. I thought I would see if I could change your mind.”

Valerie rolled her eyes. “She is persistent.”

“You noticed.” John’s dark eyes twinkled. His mouth widened with a ghost of a smile. Valerie tried not to gasp.

He reminded her of a rugged cowboy—broad-shouldered, with a prominent brow, dark piercing eyes, high cheekbones, and a cleft chin. When he smiled, even a slight trace of one, his eyes looked like liquid velvet and his dimples twinkled like stars in the night sky. A five-o’clock shadow covered his cheeks. Her fingers itched to brush against their rough texture, to tease his mouth into a full-blown grin.

“So, what can I say to make you join us?”

As he leaned against the wall in well-fitting jeans and a T-shirt that left nothing to the imagination, Valerie’s mind said, “Sleep with me.” Heat crept up her neck, over her cheeks, and continued to the roots of her hair. A thin sheen of sweat dampened the space between her breasts. She felt the sudden urge to fan herself, like a damsel in distress in an old B-movie. Instead, she ignored her traitorous thoughts. Her balled fist pressed into her tight stomach.

“Tonight, not even chocolate will change my mind.”

She didn’t exactly lie. She had no intention of going to the bar, or of sleeping with him, no matter how her thoughts might try to sabotage her good intentions. She’d been fooled by surface finery before, and it had almost killed her. She wouldn’t let it happen again.

“I will remember that,” he promised. “But next time you will not get off so easy.” His eyes bored into hers for a moment, and then he turned on his heel and left.

* * * *

True to his word, John arrived the following day pre-pared for battle. With a cursory knock on the door, he dangled a bag of M&Ms inside the trailer, but snatched it back be-fore she could grab them. “We are going out for pizza. I will pick you up in ten minutes.” Before she could answer, he walked out.

Valerie shrugged as she finished her work. The new Val-eerie never allowed other people to make decisions for her, but she’d practically handed John a permission slip. And, he had M&M’s. How could she refuse?

Ten minutes later, he returned, ushered her out the door and down the steps. Although he didn’t touch her, she could imagine the warmth of his hand on the small of her back, and feel the gentle puff of his breath against her hair. The angle of his body steered her toward the others in the parking lot as if he had taken her by the hand and dragged her with him. An invisible electric charge pulled her. Or maybe it was his Dial-soap scent. That scent—soap and man—made her stomach flip flop. Her uncontrollable reaction to him disturbed her, especially since he appeared unaffected.

He remained silent, strode toward their meeting place, and studied his surroundings as if he expected someone to pop out of the shadows and yell, “Boo!”

Then she saw the brown bag of M&Ms sticking out of his white shirt pocket. Before he could stop her, she reached around and grabbed them, opened the bag and popped three in her mouth.

“Hey, those are mine!” He reached for the bag, but not fast enough to retrieve them.

“Not anymore.” As she danced away from him, she stuck another handful in her mouth.

He brought his hand up to his heart, as if she had wounded him deeply, but the twinkle in his eye gave him away. Valerie had all she could do not to burst out laughing.

“You did not have to take them, you know. I was plan-nine to give them to you later.” He pouted and his dark hair fell across his brow, but not before Valerie saw a flash of a smile turn the corners of his mouth up.

“Oh really? When?”

“After dinner, of course. I would not want to spoil your appetite.”

As if that were possible. Valerie laughed again and John grunted, a deep hoarse sound that climbed from the pit of his stomach and thrust its way out his mouth.

Skin Deep was published in November 2011. I want to commemorate its publication, but I’d like the commemoration to mean a little bit more. Of course, I’d love for you to want to buy the book (you can find links at Whiskey Creek Press , Amazon ,  and Barnes & Noble ) and I’m also offering giveaways (described below), but in addition, I’d like the book birthday to benefit others.

Valerie, the heroine, is a survivor of domestic abuse. Her story has a happy ending. Not everyone, however, is so lucky. A portion of the royalties that I receive from each purchase of this book is donated to the Rachel Coalition, a local organization that helps victims of domestic violence. Here are some statistics that might interest you (from The Domestic Violence Resource Center ):

  • One in four women (25%) has experienced domestic violence in her lifetime.
(The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and The National Institute of Justice, Extent, Nature, and Consequences of Intimate Partner Violence, July     2000. The Commonwealth Fund, Health Concerns Across a Woman’s Lifespan: 1998 Survey of Women’s Health, 1999)
  • Estimates range from 960,000 incidents of violence against a current or former spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend to 3 million women who are physically abused by their husband or boyfriend per year.
(U.S. Department of Justice, Violence by Intimates: Analysis of Data on Crimes by Current or Former Spouses, Boyfriends, and Girlfriends, March 1998. The Commonwealth Fund, Health Concerns Across a Woman’s Lifespan: 1998 Survey of Women’s Health, 1999)
  • Women accounted for 85% of the victims of intimate partner violence, men for approximately 15%.
(Bureau of Justice Statistics Crime Data Brief, Intimate Partner Violence, 1993-2001, February 2003)
  • Between 600,000 and 6 million women are victims of domestic violence each year, and between 100,000 and 6 million men, depending on the type of survey used to obtain the data.

(Bureau of Justice Statistics, Intimate Partner Violence in the U.S. 1993-2004, 2006.)
  • Intimate partner violence affects people regardless of income. However, people with lower annual income (below $25K) are at a 3-times higher risk of intimate partner violence than people with higher annual income (over $50K).*
(Bureau of Justice Statistics, Intimate Partner Violence in the U.S. 1993-2004, 2006.)
*Please note that those with less resources are more likely to report incidents of violence
  • Studies show that access to shelter services leads to a 60-70% reduction in incidence and severity of re-assault during the 3-12 months’ follow up period compared to women who did not access shelter. Shelter services led to greater reduction in severe re-assault than did seeking court or law enforcement protection, or moving to a new location.

Author Spotlight – Titiana Ladley

I had the pleasure of meeting Titiana Ladley recently.

Bio: Titania Ladley is a nurse living in a cabin in the wilds of northern Wisconsin among the bears, badgers, foxes, eagles, deer, piles of snow and lakeside vacationers. She writes full-time for Ellora’s Cave Publishing with other works available from Samhain Publishing and Red Sage Publishing. Visit her website at http://www.TitaniaLadley.com

She’s an author doing very well for herself in the Amazon ratings. We sat down and talked about her newest book, “Kadee and the Tramp”. Take a look.

1. Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

Kaydee. She’s a strong, takes-no-shit lesbian heroine with a weakness for women who are confused about their sexuality. On the one hand, she vows to steer clear of them, but on the other, she can’t resist the temptation or the challenge of teaching on-the-fence chicks the passion that can only be shared between two women.

2. What inspires you for your stories?

Needing to share a good story with readers is the best inspiration in the world. I get a lot of my ideas or seeds of plots while doing menial household chores, during those relaxing moments just before falling asleep or waking up, when I’m having coffee on my deck listening to the birds and the wind, or when I’m driving or shopping. I always have a pen and pad of paper nearby.

3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.

Oh crap. LOL! Well, let’s see… I’ve been to a nude resort several times. And yes, I got nekkid.  😀  I did discover it ain’t my thing after all, but one never knows until they try, eh?

EG:  LOL, That’s a good one. I knew a nudest once. I’m told it is very freeing. LOL

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

Contemporary Lesbian Erotic Romance.  Heat level is off the charts. *evil grin* It’s definitely a five-flamer…with five being tops. Panty-melting hot stuff here.

EG:  **Whoo Hoo Baby — Fan’s self.**

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

I started dabbling at around the age of 12 when I began reading romance novels, which is what kicked off my writing passion. But I didn’t get serious or start learning the process until about 9 years ago or so. My first Ellora’s Cave book released in 2004.

Kaydee & the Tramp by Titania Ladley

Blurb:

“Show me how a woman makes love to a woman.” Hearing that from any hetero female is normally a deal breaker. But when lesbian Kaydee Truman is propositioned with those words by her longtime secret crush—her best friend’s widowed stepmom—temptation takes a front seat to propriety. Savanah Kirtright exudes irresistible sex appeal, and her many past experiences lie solely with men. Savanah’s unexpected enthusiasm to learn how to please a woman proves to be more than Kaydee can resist.

Which turns out to be the worst mistake of her life. But how can such an agonizing slip-up feel so damn right? Neither Kaydee nor Savanah have the answer. All they know is, one sultry summer day by the lake leaves Kaydee and her new lover to make choices that will forever change their lives.

Kaydee & the Tramp by Titania Ladley

Excerpt:

Melanie’s stepmom did have the hots for me. My pulse accelerated and rapped against my sternum.

“Yes,” I finally answered. “I must admit I’ve always been attracted to you.” I clenched the muscles in my aching pussy. Oh God, the possibilities here…

She smiled, her teeth sparkling like a row of huge white diamonds in her mouth. “I knew it.”

A gentle gust of wind blew her hair over her shoulder and across her chest. My gaze latched on to one breast where the strands had just settled. The nipple speared through the thick flaxen mass and I imagined the hard knot grazing back and forth over mine. My breasts engorged with heat and my cunt quickened with the need to taste her, to feel her skin gliding over mine, to fuck her with my fingers and my tongue and my strap-on dildo.

Jesus. Unbelievable. I felt like a teenager experiencing lesbianism for the first time. If I were male, I’d probably have just blown my premature wad all over myself.

“C’mon, it’s okay.” She tucked my hair behind my ear. Her gaze followed the move with tender care while my heart fluttered and I held in a gulp of air. I waited for her next words, which subsequently stopped my heart.

“Show me how a woman makes love to a woman. Please. Right here, right now. I’m wet just imagining it. I’ve been so horny waiting for you to get here. Christ, even with a hangover, I woke up at five this morning unable to get back to sleep, totally on fire. But I didn’t do anything about it. I wanted to wait. You know, let it simmer.”

I huffed out a breath. “Whoa, simmer? For a virgin lesbian, you sure do know how to get things cooking.”

She laughed, husky and sweet. Her grin faded. “Take my virginity, then. Show me how it feels, tastes, smells. I want to be completely tutored.”

Ah, here we go, the final temptation. Her brazen proposition coupled with the sound of her provocative voice reached down into my soul and snapped that last thread of resistance. My juices spilled out of my vagina and soaked through my panties and onto the crotch of my shorts. I fisted my fingers in the hair at the back of her head. Her simmering concept appealed to me, so I fielded the instinct to yank her mouth to mine. Instead, I moved in slowly, as stealthy as a panther.
