Author Spotlight – Tara Kingston

It is my pleasure to host the talented Tara Kingston today in the Author Spotlight. Her “Love Potion #7” is a must read. Comment on today’s post to be put in the drawing.  One random post will be selected to win an e-book copy of “Love Potion #7”.  Winner to be announced on Friday, March 8th.

1. Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

My favorite character in Love Potion #7 is Chelsea, the heroine. She’s independent, fiercely loyal, and she’s not above doing something just a bit wicked. My favorite thing about Chelsea is her sense of humor. The way she laughs at herself is one aspect of her character I can really relate to in my own life.

2. What inspires you for your stories?

Usually, I’ll get the inspiration for a character first. In some cases, a certain celebrity will inspire a kernel of an idea, and I take it from there. I’m a huge football fan, and I have to confess that a couple of my favorite players inspired the hero in Love Potion #7. In other cases, especially with my historical romances, historical figures and events will inspire a “what if” scenario that gets me thinking heroes, heroines, and romance.

3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.

Hmmm…something no one else knows…that’s a hard one…okay, here goes. When I was young, my mother introduced me to stories that were essentially gothic romances, and they remain one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Victoria Holt and Barbara Michaels were and still are two of my favorite authors. The love scenes are strictly behind closed doors, and there’s an air of mystery and the supernatural…love those stories. I’m strongly thinking of writing my own, but with steamy love scenes that would give the ghosts of the manor something to talk about.

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

Love Potion #7 is an erotic romance with paranormal elements. It’s steamy hot!

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

I started writing in elementary school, scribbling stories in a notebook, and I haven’t stopped. Reading is one of my passions, and this lifelong love ignited my passion for creating my own characters and telling my own stories. I began writing with an eye toward publication about five years ago and found a local writers’ group. The fellowship and encouragement of other writers spurred me on to complete my novel. It doesn’t matter how many stories I write…there’s always another one brewing in my mind. Please stop by my website, http://www.tarakingston.com, to learn more about my romances.

Love Potion #7 Blurb:

Chelsea York is a witch on a mission.         Quarterback Jake Wilder’s broken one heart too many, and Chelsea’s out to give the legendary passer a taste of his own medicine. She calls upon the city’s resident spellcaster to conjure the perfect brew for her task, Love Potion #7.

Jake Wilder left the game of football for the quiet of his hometown, but he hasn’t left fame behind. When a bewitching bookstore owner engages him in a sensuous battle of the sexes, he decides to teach the woman he believes to be a gold digger why she shouldn’t play with fire.

With seduction as their mission, both set out to become the victor in their sexual play. But they both get in over their heads when struck with desire neither can deny. And surrendering to the pleasure of temptation will lead them to discover how some passions are more potent than any spell.

Through the ages food has been seen as a way to commune with others, bringing fellowship to the table while nourishing the body. Food is key in celebration and in honoring. It’s also been commonly widespread everything from asparagus to honey to chocolate and oysters hold aphrodisiacal properties. But we at Rebel Ink Press believe not only is food nourishment for the body and fuel for romance, cooking is one of the sexiest and most nurturing things one can do for another.

It’s the way to the heart.

Rebel Ink Press presents The Way to the Heart, a collection of recipes from twenty-six Rebel writers, our charitable project for 2013. For every copy sold a charitable donation will be made to help nurture families and communities around the world through Heifer International.

Thank you for your purchase. By opening your heart, you’ll find the way to someone else’s.

Author Spotlight – Law Reigns

My pleasure to introduce you today to Law Reigns. I have trouble with creating titles so when I heard hers I was drawn in. “SUPERHEROES WEAR FADED DENIM”

BNonlinecover

Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

My objective when writing Superheroes Wear Faded Denim was to create a diverse cast of wild characters. Honestly, my  favorite has to be Gabriel. He is a warrior angel, custodia in Latin, and he is tasked with communicating the war to the humans involved in battle. He is under so much stress, forced to overcome obstacle after obstacle. Honestly, I do not think anything ever goes perfect for him in the novel. Yet, he remains loving and understanding.

Even when he has to dodge the main character Blissany’s sexual advances, he tries his best to leave her with, “It’s not you; you’re perfect. It’s me.”

2. What inspires you for your stories?

Life. Honestly, I cannot write without using some of the emotions I have experienced or watched others experience. Superheroes Wear Faded Denim is a fantasy romance, but I try to capture some sort of truth in my novels. People who have read my novels have commented on how shockingly surprised they were at how true to life my characters read.

I find it is easier to write a novel based on real life emotions and experiences. It is the main reason I chose a college campus in Gainesville, Florida  as the setting. I was there breathing, living, surviving for four years. I saw what made it unique, what made it dreadfully boring at times.

At night, the sky becomes a black curtain. The buildings designed to mimic antiquated churches become the perfect hangout for demons. Laying on the grass, staring up at the sky gives you an eerie peace. You start to think, an intergalactic battle can take place here.

I understand what you’re talking about. I’ve spent a lot of time around old G-ville town. Campus can be unsafe at night. Remember buddy system when you’re star watching. LOL

3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.

Oh this should be fun. I am such a big mouth I don’t really have any secrets. Really works in my favor when someone tries to blackmail me. How about this? I am addicted to Sunkist orange soda. If evolution or genetics have anything to do with my love for Sunkist, I’m telling you my ancestors were chowing down on those oranges.

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

Again it is a fantasy romance, more so urban fantasy. When you read the book, you will be blown away by the fast-paced action and wacky scenarios. The love is there,  so I would give it a 6 on the heat scale. Because I love conflict, this novel is for plot fiends who love characters to fight to the death for their happy ending.

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

Honestly, I started writing at seven and do not know why I am still writing till this day. Maybe it’s because it’s so easy. I have a knack for it. There are these visions in my head, I can put them down on paper, wrap it up in covers, put it out there in the world, and maybe I will find someone who thinks just like me. Maybe we’ll connect online. Maybe we’ll be best friends. Maybe we’ll be lovers. Who knows when it comes to life?

Sounds like seeds for another romance plot. Thank you for sharing with us today.

Blurb:

When you’re the last man standing…

Not only was Logan Delaney the last of his siblings to remain unmarried and unsettled, his entire family believed he’d never find a wife. The baby of eight, he’s been dubbed an irresponsible player and told he’ll never amount to a hill of beans. And at one time, Logan may have been okay with those descriptions, but no more. On a quest to prove his worth, he’s spent the entire summer learning the family business, staying in at night, and saving his money. And if his family would stop meddling in his affairs and trying to dictate who he should and shouldn’t be seeing, he might just show them he’s found the one, Lizzy Jenkins.

And have a bad reputation to blame…

Elizabeth Jenkins had always known Logan Delaney existed, but he’d never so much as turned one glance her way until she handed him his butt on a silver platter in three sentences or less over the phone. After that it seemed at every turn there he was and the more she resisted the heat building between them, the bigger the fire got. Until his family interfered. And why wouldn’t they? Between Logan’s legacy and her baggage, they were a disaster in the making.

Can you be trusted with a fragile heart?

But Logan doesn’t run when he finds out about Colby. In fact, he embraces Lizzy’s special needs son and defies the advice of everyone urging him to leave Lizzy alone. But after one moment of weakness, Logan finds himself knee deep in a marriage complete with the little boy whose father bailed before his birth and Lizzy’s grandfather, who needs constant care as well.  Then there’s the man who just might be the demise of it all.

I have Logan and Lizzy here to interview with me today.

So, Logan, I understand you were a bit of a player before the summer. What was a good Friday night out for you?

Well, you get straight to the point, huh? LOL Yes, being the youngest of my clan (I have 7 brothers and sisters) I was left to my own devices a bit too long I suppose. A good Friday night? Miss Eden, it was more like a good Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday…repeat. There were a few places I used to frequent regularly around Seaford, places where the ladies were abundant and the drinks even more so. And it was nothing for me to traipse up to Dover to gamble. Basically my wallet was always empty and my bed had a revolving door on it…until Lizzy chewed my ass royal one day over the phone. First time we met and last time I wanted anyone but her.

Then the summer and you buckled down to learn the family business. What was the most important lesson you gained from that experience?

Yes ma’am, summer happened and for a while we thought our entire family would fall apart with Dad so sick. And experience? I learned just how damn hard a man has to work to please everyone and has to do it most of the time with his tongue clamped between his teeth. I had no idea how hard my dad and brothers really were working and then taking care of a family on top of that? Yeah, not for sissies!

What was your first thought when Elizabeth set you down on the phone that day?

Well, to be honest, at that point my head wasn’t doing the thinking…Hell, sometimes it still doesn’t do the thinking where she’s concerned.

Well, well, well. Interesting stuff.

Elizabeth, I see that you are a caregiver with a lot of responsibilities on your shoulders. What do you do to reenergize yourself in order to be able to handle all that’s on your plate?

Well, I used to not do anything for myself. I just kept going like the Energizer bunny and hoped my ass didn’t pass me before the day was over. Now that I have Logan to depend on a little bit, I take more me time. Heck, a trip to the store without anyone in tow is a treat, but Logan makes sure I get more than that. Sometimes the men in this family send all the women on spa days which last all day long. Come to think of it, maybe those are really designed to reenergize themselves…**glares at Logan** Logan Delaney…

So, what is your greatest joy?

My son. Raising a special needs child has been rough, but I wouldn’t trade a minute of having Colby in my life for anything in the world. He sees life through the eyes of innocence and reminds me daily if I will too life is so much easier.

Tell us about one goal you have for the future.

Finish nursing school! I’m close…but there’s been lots of baby making practice which has become quite a hindrance to progress. 😉

Thanks, Eden for having us over today. Hope you enjoy the Guinness cakes Nana sent with us.

Thank you both for coming by. (opening Guinnes cakes) Ummm heavenly!

Excerpt:

With a mixture of emotions swirling through her, Lizzy watched the same storm overtake Logan’s features which was brewing inside her. A veritable lightning bolt passed between them as soon as he’d touched her. She knew she’d always been attracted to Logan, but the instant heat still scalding her skin from his fingers left her unsettled. It was but a mere couple of hours prior she was trying to convince herself she could do with some sort of quickie sexual gratification, although she’d admitted it could never be with Logan, and now she wanted nothing more and the door to her emotions was wide open leaving her vulnerable and believing maybe they could have both. And just as she was trying to tell herself to stop trusting the lies her deprived body was concocting, Logan decided to try to convince her he might be interested in more as well.

Where was Logan the player and who was the imposter sitting across the table from her who could probably talk her right into his bed with one sentence or less and keep her coming back heartbreak on the horizon or not?

As her pulse slowed a bit, she turned to look at Colby and reminded herself why she couldn’t be playing horizontal Twister with anyone let alone Logan. And she sure couldn’t go letting Colby think there was a reason to get too comfortable around him. He seemed to like Logan and the Delaney herd of kids and she didn’t want him getting his feelings hurt because she couldn’t control her hormonal urges. What if she made the mistake of screwing Logan’s brains out, things didn’t work out, and that made it awkward to be coming around anymore? This was the first time anyone had really taken them in and welcomed them unconditionally and she didn’t want to rob Colby of it.

Author Spotlight – Kharisma Rhayne

highlander mine-6Who is your favorite character in this book and why? I love Breandan. He’s the strong Highlander, the battle-driven, no need for love until it smacks him on his arse, tough guy.

What inspires you for your stories?  Usually it’s just something that nags me until I give in and finally start writing it.

Tell us something no one else knows about you.  Oh gosh, I should never admit this…but—since I’ve always had to be tough and push my own way…I’d love to be a full girl…the one that gets to have someone else make the tough decisions and fix the washer and all that. I think I’m finally old enough to want that shoulder to cry on. lol

What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance? It’s a Historical Highlander Time Travel Erotic Romance. Right now, maybe it’s at a 3 rating, but we’ll definitely hit 5 before the serial season is over.

When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author? I started writing in Jr High and never really stopped. But I didn’t even try to get anything published until summer 2011 and then it just went on and on from there. It seems for every one thing I publish, I get 5 more ideas.

The Best Iced Tea Ever

Here is the way to make the best Iced Tea Ever.

2  Luzianne Family Sized Tea bags.

1 Twinings Chai French Vanilla Tea Bag.

Heat 4 cups of water. I have a coffee maker that I use only for water for tea and chocolate. I run a pot of water through it and pour it over the three tea bags. I let them sit for 5 or 10 minutes.  Then I mix in 1 cup of Splenda (generic if you wish and a little less if you don’t like it as sweet)

I put that in a 1/2 gallon container and fill with cold water to make the 1/2 gallon.  If you like it stronger double the batch of tea or make only 1/4 gallon instead.

The Chai gives is a wonderful little something extra.

Cherokee Rose

I love the Walking Dead series. It is one of the FEW T.V. shows I watch. I will admit sometimes I watch it with my hands in front of my eyes asking “What’s happening.”  It certainly causes my kids to mess with me a lot. LOL.

Ages ago I heard the story of the Cherokee Rose.

I heard this beautiful song talking about the flower that would represent the grief of the Cherokee mothers. Cherokee Rose by Corey Smith and a lovely New Age Version of the Cradle Song of the Cherokee Rose

Then, of course in the Second Season of Walking Dead. Darrell (Norman Reedus) is trying to comfort Carol after her child Sophia goes missing. It is the most beautiful scene of the entire series. It is well worth taking a look. The Cherokee Rose

"The Legend of the Cherokee Rose

The Cherokee were driven from their homelands in North Carolina and Georgia over 100 years ago when gold was discovered in their lands. The journey known as the "Trail of Tears". It was a terrible time for the people - many died from the hardships and the women wept. The old men knew the women must be strong to help the children survive so they called upon the Great One to help their people and to give the mothers strength.

The Great One caused a plant to spring up everywhere a Mother's tears had fallen upon the ground on the journey. He told the old men that the plant would grow quickly, then fall back to the ground and another stem would grow. The plant would have white blossoms, a beautiful rose with five petals and gold in the center for the greed of the white man for the gold on their land. The leaves would have seven green leaflets, one for each Cherokee clan. The plant would be strong and grow quickly throughout the land all along the Trail of Tears. The stickers on the stem would protect it from those who might try to move it, as it spread to reclaim some of the lost Cherokee homeland.

The next morning, the women saw the beautiful white blossoms far back on the trail. When they heard what the Great One had said they felt their strength returning and knew they would survive and the children would grow and the People would flourish in the new Cherokee Nation.

Author Spotlight – Welcome Joanne C. Berroa

Joanne was my guest back in December. I fell in love with her Time Travel Romance “My Life, My Heart”. She had a new book release on 02/03/13 and I invited her here today to tell us about the new story and a little bit more about herself.  Here’s Joanne:

For On Angels’ Wings:

1. For On Angels’ Wings: Lt. Johnny Morgan is my favorite character in this book. He’s daring and a risk taker. He’s not afraid to go over the top, thus his passion for flying fighter planes during WW II.  He loves deeply despite all odds. He’s the kind of man a woman would entrust with her heart.

2.  I get inspiration from imagining what type of man I would want to meet and ultimately marry. It’s fun to “create” life and take him from point A to point B.

3.  When I’m not writing (which is seldom) I teach piano and organ. I’ve been doing that for forty years.

4.  On Angels’ Wings is a WW II romance and a historical romance. Like my other novel, My Life, My Heart, the heat level is sensual and around 3.5.

5.  Two of my English teachers told me to make writing my life’s work. I won essay contests early on, but was always timid about reading my essays in front of the class. When I began writing full length romances, I’d make my mother read the chapters as I wrote them. She was hardly an unbiased critic, however, as she loved everything I wrote! That spurred me onward and I haven’t stopped putting out stories.

OnAngelsWings_Cover2

Blurb for On Angels’ Wings:

December 1940 found the world on the brink of a conflict greater than it had yet known, but for Anne Miller, USO band singer, the days before Pearl Harbor find her world full of excitement and promise. She had left the comfort of family and friends in Washington, DC to venture out into the distant and beautiful Hawaiian landscape to make a new life for herself and her fiancé, Corporal Daniel Beiler of the American Army forces.

Little did she know her perfect world was just an illusion. She didn’t expect to fall in love with a Navy pilot she’d meet at the USO dancehall on the eve of  “the day that will live in infamy.”  Her love for Daniel would be threatened while she fought with new and strange emotions for the brave and reckless Lieutenant Johnny Morgan.  How could she love both men, although quite differently, and remain true to either?  Will the outbreak of WWII tear their lives apart or pull them together in rain drenched islands in the South Pacific?

On Angels’ Wings is a story of desperation, hope, and fulfillment during the tumultuous years of World War II.
