Dragon’s Unbound Promo

Dragon’s Unbound is an erotic M/M paranormal romance featuring dragon shape shifters. Rhys and Haydn made their first appearance toward then end of Dar’kind Promises a erotic F/F paranormal romance. Pieces of their story came together before I wrote Dar’kind Promises. I felt the need to go back and tell their story. So I took the pieces I had and went to work with a few more ‘what ifs’ to get the answers I needed to bring their story out. There are places to laugh, perhaps a tear or two and hopefully in the end the reminder that unconditional love exists and their is healing if you let go and work for it.

Today I share their cover and an excerpt.  Enjoy

Chapter One

Haydn concentrated on the steps to make the poultice for the healer. Prepare the white bread by tearing it into small pieces then warm the milk to douse the chunks and create a pasty mixture to treat the wounded dragon. At least he could do this job for the healer.

Isobeau rescued Haydn from hell and he would do anything she asked of him, even if it was only tearing countless loaves of bread into little pieces. His dragon symbiont had not emerged at puberty like his peers. Deemed a recessive, he was cast off and given to the Telihedran as a pleasure slave. Their draconic natures were ruthless. They’d used Haydn without compassion yet he survived the horror.

Helping others consumed his weeks with her. First, the rescue of the Dar’kind Fairy Maura and her tracker mate, Zelia, and now a very large indigo dragon shifter fighting for life in the ballroom of the old Victorian home. The healer helped all beings, not turning anyone away. For that alone she gained his loyalty without reservation. A loyalty events forced him to contemplate transferring to the new Dragon Guardian.

The Healer sent him on this task probably knowing he would be more comfortable in the confines of the kitchen. He hadn’t had the time to tell her what had happened. All the activity of the others preparing for the healing took up her time. That and the secret he hid gave him the sharp edge of panic, making it hard to breath. He kept the kitchen lights dim and focused on his chore, searching for calm balance.

He wiped his forehead with the back of his arm. He wasn’t sure what had turned his thoughts to remembering the past. The secrets he tried so hard to bury were surfacing, threatening to wreck everything. Isobeau kept his experiences before coming to the watchers in confidence. Perhaps the memories surfaced because the events of the afternoon left him with yet another secret to guard. He pulled his sleeve back down to hide the mark over his wrist.

Cathwren, the Guardian, was a human and not even reared among dragon kind. He found it hard to believe the small woman with the flaming hair stood as Dragon Guardian for this generation of their entire race. Her heritage would make her open-minded. Maybe there was a chance for others like himself. The fulfillment of prophecy transpired right before his very eyes.

Recently, his sexual desire had awakened. Now lust coursed through him leaving him achy and heavy, demanding relief. The few times he’d pleasured himself only made his need more poignant. He longed for a committed relationship, someone to be his, to love and take care of, a safe harbor. His longing had no outlet. Well, not one he would allow. Rhys deserved so much more than Haydn could offer. His interest in the man was yet another secret to hide.

The kitchen door burst open. Haydn jumped, instinctively grasping a knife for defense. Rhys stood in the doorway. The very man his wayward thoughts always drifted toward with imagined possibility of meaningful intimacy with crouched in the doorway, his hands spread in a calming gesture.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” There’s no danger. I pushed too hard.” He turned to examine the door. “I keep meaning to plane this where the wood swells and catches.”

Often Rhys didn’t know his own strength. He was the one Watcher who didn’t give Haydn pity, only calm compassion, acceptance, and friendship. Haydn allowed the man’s projected psy energy to wash through him, restoring his calm. He put the knife down and crossed the room, moving carefully. “The healer needs this glop quickly. It’s time.”

“I have the bread cut and the milk is almost hot enough.”

Rhys moved in so close the sandalwood scent of the soap he used flooded Haydn’s senses. The man’s hair glinted black in the low light of the evening kitchen. Haydn could see the soft wisps at the V-neck of Rhys button-down shirt. Did the hair trail down the Watcher’s chest in a light dusting or did it cover him like a furry pelt? Haydn shivered. Great Goddess, help me control my thoughts.

“That’s not necessary.” Rhys lips formed one of his infrequent smiles. A smile transformed his guarded features into the handsome masculine Adonis.

“What?” Haydn struggled to think, what wasn’t necessary. He had the bread. The milk was almost ready.

“The Goddess needn’t control your thoughts, you have that power. You’re free to think and do what pleases you now. You’re welcome to wonder what my chest looks like. I’m not offended.”

Haydn’s body trembled as conflicting emotions assailed him. How could this man perceive his thoughts so easily? It was a talent usually reserved for mated couples. The feelers of inviting warmth from Rhys tickled at his awareness.

The man’s eyes were concerned. “I won’t force you. I just wanted you to know I’m here. I could be that someone for you.”

Fighting to shield his thoughts, Haydn hurried to the stove to get the warm milk, visions of their bodies entwined together making love to each other, beautiful and sharing, until they were both spent and exhausted, clouding his mind. Ugly, painful thoughts from his past intruded. He was worthless and shamed. Dear Goddess, no. He fought to breathe and push the thoughts back behind the doors of his mind. This was dangerous. Rhys could perceive his thoughts so easily.

“No. I… No.” He rejected Rhys’ offer and grabbed the pan, bringing it to pour over the bread. With all the traps in his psyche, he couldn’t bring himself to engage in meaningless, gratification-based relationships and quick, casual, nameless, sex.

Their race had never established sexual boundaries. They accepted physical desires as any other need; to eat, to scratch an itch. Sexual acts between either gender were widely practiced and weren’t limited to the constraints of human morals. However, permanent, same gender parings were unacceptable and considered an abomination.

What would it be like to have sex with tenderness? Hadyn didn’t want anonymous sex. He wanted a partner to build a healthy life with. He wanted someone who would accept him in spite of the damage to his soul. How could he say I don’t need someone, I need you? Yet, he’d just turned down the only man who didn’t treat him like a leper.

Out of the corner of his vision, he saw Rhys smile.

Rhys reached for the bowl of bread at the same time Haydn poured the hot milk over the bread cubes. Scalded milk sloshed across Rhys’ hand, searing the skin to an immediate parboiled red.

“Crap! I’m sorry.” Haydn pulled the man toward the sink where he turned on the water, dropping the empty pan with a clatter in the bottom of the stainless steel basin.

Haydn shoved Rhys’ hand under the cold water to ease the burn. The musky, sharp scent of Rhys’ male essence blanketed Haydn. In his urgency to get Rhys’ arm to the cold water, Haydn pulled the man around him. Haydn froze. It was all too intimate. Too close. Aw hell, it was also too comfortable. Rhys clasped the edge of the sink with his free hand, bracketing Haydn in his embrace.

“You’re not trapped. This is where you want to be.” Rhys’ voice caressed Haydn like a lovers touch, deep and soothing.

Lady of light, yes, the man was right. He wanted the closeness with Rhys more than he’d ever wanted anything in his life. He wanted to feel Rhys’ hard body wrapped around him. The need to have Rhys’ cock fill him became unbearable. Haydn wanted that and so much more, he couldn’t find words to describe it. The evidence of Rhys’ own need pressed against Haydn’s hip, thick and erect.

Rhys leaned his head down and whispered seductively in Haydn’s ear. “That’s yours when you’re ready to come for me.”

Haydn shivered at the double meaning. Rhy’s hot breath caressed his neck as the man paused to inhale, deeply drawing in Haydn’s scent.

“And what I have for you… I promise it won’t be quick. It won’t be casual. And it won’t be nameless.”

Summer Lovin The movie “Dirty Dancing” is one of my all time favorite coming of age movies. I love “baby’s” journey into womanhood. With the theme of our blog hop Summer Lovin, I tried to think back to remember one of those summer loving moments in my past. Names are changed to protect the guilty. LOL.  I spent a couple of summers with relatives who lived on a small key off one of the islands of the bay in the Caribbean.  One of those teenage summers the community organized a festival to commemorate the landing of some famous explorer. We were on a boat sailing around the island to re-enact the landing of this FAMOUS explorer. The object of my summer crush was an ‘older’ man. Okay maybe he was twenty. Tanned brown from working in the sun. Hair streaked, sun kissed blond highlighted the brown shaggy strands. His eyes were the most memorable feature. They sparkled when he talked. Oh, His eyes were a tawny golden color like a lion. We had one glorious afternoon kissing in the rain. I don’t know what happened to him. So many years  have passed. I wonder what kind of life he ended up having. He remains my golden eyed pirate, a fantasy of my past. Share your favorite Summer Lovin story.

Phoenix Reborn

The Phoenix flies far above on powerful wings wide as a condor. Its forward facing predatory eyes sharp, shrewd, always scanning the world from its lofty haven, searching for purpose to fulfill, compassion and healing its guiding mission. Plumage colored in orange red, yellows and blue accented with living tongues of flame swirling along the feathered edges as it moved. Its existence of living in the moment exemplifies true freedom. Yet its regal bearing embraces gratitude for the simplistic graciousness of life. The word resplendent was man’s first inadequate attempt to describe the bird’s ethereal beauty. The uninitiated might say ‘look what an oddly colored peacock’, until faced with the birds wise gaze which turned those thoughts inward and revealed its true magic. A man having seen the magnificent animal close enough to touch, bound his eyes closed, tears remained on his cheeks, because he surely knew he would never see another sight more exquisite. The Phoenix shifted to her womanly form kissed away the tear but could not coax him from his self-imposed blindness.

VanessasStory_Cover  Karma Chronicles – Excerpt

“I don’t want you anymore.”

Startled, Vanessa caught the glass of iced tea before it fell out of her hand and hit the table. Vanessa couldn’t believe he was doing this now, on their date night, in the middle of Thursday’s, in front of everyone. Taking a deep breath, reaching for strength from an unfamiliar place, she looked up into the brown eyes and watched the mouth that had brought her so much pleasure repeat the words.

“We can’t be together.”

Licking her lips, she began to say something, anything that would help make sense of the craziness spewing from Sean’s lips. The word why was forming on hers when he held his hand up, stopping Vanessa before she could speak.

“It’s been fun while it lasted, but I need to be with my own kind.”

His cold words stabbed my withered heart. His own kind. So she was freaking subpar because she wasn’t Native American?

“There’s no need to drag this out, Vanessa,” Sean continued dropping more ice missiles on her heart. “I just can’t do this with you anymore. I shouldn’t have let it go on this long.”

Before she could lift her hand to slap the sense back into him, he got up and left. Sick with embarrassment and humiliation, Vanessa glanced around to see if anyone else had witnessed her complete and utter humiliation. Her eyes met one of the waitresses, snickering as she walked by. A couple of guys turned their heads at the booth where she was sitting and quickly turned around when her eyes met theirs. The waitress placed the food down and left as quickly as she had come.

Taking a deep breath, Vanessa swallowed forcing back tears. She wouldn’t break down in front of these people. With shaking hands, she placed some bills on the table and stood up. Throwing her hood over her head, she turned and walked blindly toward the restaurant entrance.

Once outside, the enormity of the situation hit Vanessa. She’d just been dumped because she was Black.

Walking aimlessly through the parking lot, Vanessa trusted her feet to carry her to the safety of her car. She didn’t feel the icy raindrops hitting her face. She didn’t feel the way hot tears mingled with their cold wetness, forming a warm path on her face. She just felt empty.

Tears began to blur her vision and she walked straight into a cold solid object. Using a still shaky hand to wipe her eyes, she regained her balance and stared at her blue Honda civic. With trembling hands, Vanessa reached into her pocket and pulled her car keys out of her tight jeans meant to impress and attempted to stick them into the lock. Unsuccessful, she watched as they hit the wet ground.

In a trance she bent, picked up the keys and unlocked the car door. Numbly she got in and started the car then drove home in a daze.

Walking into her apartment, she closed the door and turned to face the picture of her and Sean laughing in love, smiling at the camera. A loud sob broke the silence as Vanessa leaned back against the door and slid to the floor as fresh hot tears she could no longer hold poured from her eyes.

Minutes or hours later she opened my eyes. She was still sitting on the floor. Vanessa’s head felt like it had been slammed against the door repeatedly. Gingerly she touched her tender, puffy eyes and felt the stickiness of old tears her face. Taking a deep breath, her eyes filled again. As they streamed Vanessa began planning a future, a future without Sean and definitely away from Bear Creek.

Author Spotlight – Jennifer Wilck

Today my guest for Author Spotlight is Jennifer Wilck.  My interview questions reveal a complex woman who has found expression through writing. Take a look and enjoy, my new friend and fellow Rebel Ink Press author,  Jennifer Wilck.

Biography

When I was a little girl and couldn’t fall asleep, my mother would tell me to make up a story. Pretty soon, my head was filled with these stories and the characters that populated them. Each character had a specific personality, a list of likes and dislikes, and sometimes, even a specific accent or dialect. Even as an adult, I think about the characters and stories at night before I fall asleep, or in the car on my way to or from one of my daughters’ numerous activities (hey, anything that will drown out their music is a good thing).

One day, I started writing them down (it was either that or checking into the local mental hospital—the computer was way less scary). Since then, I’ve published two contemporary romances with Whiskey Creek Press. The Seduction of Esther is my first book with Rebel Ink Press, and I’m excited to be part of their team.

In the real world, I’m the mother of two amazing daughters and wife of one of the smartest men I know. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, traveling and watching TV. In between chauffeuring my daughters to after-school activities that require an Excel spreadsheet to be kept straight, I serve on our Temple Board and volunteer for way more things than I have time to do. I also write freelance articles for magazines, newspapers, and edit newsletters.

When all of that gets overwhelming, I retreat to my computer, where I write stories that let me escape from reality. In my made-up world, the heroines are always smart, sassy and independent. The heroes are handsome and strong with just a touch of vulnerability. If I don’t like a character, I can delete him or her; if something doesn’t work, I can rewrite it. It’s very satisfying to be in control of at least one part of my life.

SeductionofEsther_Cover

Samara Goldberg has a problem even the most beautiful singing voice can’t fix. She’s a walking disaster, especially when she’s around handsome men. To make matters worse, she’s in desperate need of someone to play the character of Mordecai for the Purim spiel she’s producing and the new congregant, Nathaniel Abramson, is a perfect fit. Nathaniel is a divorced dad who’s recovering from the biggest public scandal of his life. The last thing he needs is a relationship with the choir director at his new synagogue, who also happens to be playing the lead female role of Esther in the very play he’s been coerced into joining.

Woven around the Jewish holiday of Purim, The Seduction of Esther is a story of two people whose lives mirror the plot of the Purim story. Like Esther, who had to hide her Jewish identity from the King of Persia, Samara and Nathaniel are hiding key pieces of themselves. Evil Haman wanted to destroy the Jews, and the nasty Josh will do anything to keep Samara and Nathaniel apart. Will their love survive, like the Jewish people in Shushan, Persia, or will their fear keep them apart?

1.    Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

I love the heroine, Samara, in The Seduction of Esther. While I am many things, one thing I’m not is a klutz, and she is. It was so much fun to write about the escapades she gets herself into. Most of Samara’s klutziness comes out when she’s around men she’s attracted to, so I really enjoyed putting her into situations with the hero to see how she reacts, and then with another man who likes her but whose feelings are not reciprocated. Hopefully the reader will laugh as much as I did!

2. What inspires you for your stories?

I get my inspiration from many places. Sometimes from minor characters on TV, sometimes from people I see during the course of my day. Once I got inspiration from a billboard. Actually, The Seduction of Esther revolves around the Jewish holiday of Purim, so my friends at Temple are dying to see if anyone they know is in the book.

In all seriousness, for this story, I wanted to write a romance that had Jewish elements in it, much like so many of the romances have Christian elements—Christmas, wedding in a church, etc. So I took one of the holidays, Purim, and used it as the theme for the book. One of the main themes of Purim is hiding one’s identity, and the hero and heroine in The Seduction of Esther have things that they hide from others as well.

3 Tell us something no one else knows about you.

I think that’s a trick question, since there’s probably a reason on one knows certain things about me.

Yes, Jennifer, I’m sneaky like that — E.G. LOL

Most people know (or soon figure out) that I hate public speaking. However, what they don’t know is that I used to do it all the time when I was working as an editor of trade magazine. I spoke at conferences and seminars and led panel discussions about all sorts of techie topics. My problem with public speaking is doing it in front of people I know. I’m not sure if that says more about my friends  or about me, though.

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

The Seduction of Esther is a contemporary romance with a Jewish theme. As for heat level, I’d say moderate. There are sex scenes, but they’re not excessively graphic.

5.   When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

I’ve always loved writing and have been writing in one form or another for as long as I can remember. However, I started “officially” writing romance when my oldest daughter was about six years old. I was watching TV one night and an idea for a story popped into my head. I ran to my computer and began writing it down. Three books later and I haven’t stopped writing. I’m hoping for a lot more books to be published in the future.

I can be reached at www.jenniferwilck.com or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jennifer-Wilck/201342863240160. I tweet at @JWilck. My blog (Fried Oreos) is www.jenniferwilck.wordpress.com and I contribute to Heroines With Hearts at www.heroineswithhearts.blogspot.com.

Jennifer I love the cover and the premise for the book sounds very interesting. Here is an excerpt that put this on my must read list. E.G.

Nathaniel logged out of Facebook and leaned back in his desk chair. It squeaked in protest. The application had suggested a number of potential “friends” for him and as usual, he’d ignored them. But this time, the names filled him with a twinge of unease. Both names had been from his old synagogue. Both people knew of his past. The past he’d do anything not to repeat. Which is why today’s time with Samara puzzled him.

He couldn’t deny his attraction to her. The past few weeks he’d tried to deny it and it hadn’t gotten him anywhere. Her appearance at the Met had surprised him, although he wasn’t sure why. He was bound to run into people he knew in the city—it was big, but crossing paths wasn’t unheard of or unexpected.

His heart beat faster as he remembered the warmth of her hand in his, the syncopation of their steps as they meandered through the galleries, the mutual looks they’d exchanged at a comment of Zoe’s. She was real, natural and warm. She made him feel things he didn’t want to feel, wasn’t ready to feel, but couldn’t deny. When they were together, electricity filled the air. His senses went on hyper-alert. The scent of her perfume filled his nostrils and he longed for more—and he didn’t even like perfume. His skin tingled at her nearness, every hair on his arm and neck stood on end and it was as if he could determine her exact position in the room in relation to himself like a compass. He could stare at her for hours, read every emotion on her expressive face, gaze into the endless pools of brown liquid as she looked back at him. He knew her emotions from the tone of her voice and her singing made him forget who and where he was. His mouth went dry at the thought of kissing her, tasting her skin. He shook his head to clear it. At this rate, he’d never get any sleep tonight. As he rose and went to bed, the only thing he could think of was Samara.

Vol 1

Raynia’s Magic

200x300RayniasMagic

Menage’ M/M/F & M/F/M Erotic Contemporary Romance.

Raynia Castellano is drawn to purchase an amethyst pendant as an impulse buy but not before the clerk assures Raynia the magic is in the woman, not the necklace that seems to call to her. And given Raynia has just left an adulterous ex-husband and has recently settled into a law practice with her oh so sexy and oh so apparently gay law partners, surely a little magic is required.

Vol 2

Beverly’s Secret

F/F Erotic Contemporary Romance

BeverlysSecret_Coversmall

Beverly Carter, clerk at Salynne’s Crystal’s and Thyme could have sworn she placed the amethyst necklace in the display cabinet. How did the gem end up in her pocket? She’d have to take it back to work in the morning and explain her mistake to the shop owner.

Trying the necklace on for just a moment couldn’t hurt anything. When the clasp won’t release she has to call on her next-door neighbor, Makala Reynaud for help. A woman that Beverly is very attracted to but hasn’t had the courage to approach. She hasn’t figured out how to confess her interest without outing herself prematurely. Bev’s pretty sure the woman is a lesbian too. What if she was wrong? So Beverly’s been stuck, just as stuck as the damn necklace.

Then, Makala’s red lips were just too tempting, too perfect, too close. Stealing a kiss could open a door to disaster instead of the closet on her sexual preference. Yet, the way Makala accepted the kiss and returned it with unabashed enthusiasm blew that door off its hinges.

They spent the night talking and exploring sex every way and everywhere possible in Makala’s small apartment. Beverly had to wonder if the rumors about the necklace were true. Was this some kind of spell that might only last the night?  Could this be the beginning of something magical?

Earth Day Blog Hop

Earth Day Blog hop continues at Rebel Ink Press. Visit and see what other authors are thinking about during this celebration of Earth Day.

I like shiny things and I can not lie.

I revel in costume jewelry probably more than diamonds and rubys. I’m not exactly sure why. If I lose a $4. necklace of glass beads I am sad and miss the enjoyment I might have wearing it. But if I’d lost a $4000. diamond necklace…well somehow the stakes are different.

What on Earth does this have to do with Earth Day? LOL

Well, the Earth has many treasures that are beautiful to enjoy and have gratitude for. From the massive redwoods on the California coast, to the gigantic quarts deposits deep in the mountains of Tennessee and on to the lovely shells and sand dollars along the beaches of Florida. My oldest is in Japan. She has found a sand dollar there and somehow I feel closer to her than the other side of the world. She told me Japan is known for its coastal sea glass. Who would have thought? Somehow we treat Earth like that glass necklace instead of the diamond one.

We have only one Earth. Our home is not disposable and if we aren’t careful our decisions will take something irreplaceably precious and destroy it.

& they found the perfect home just made for two
It was styrofoam, oh styrofoam
& they moved right in – 1,2,3
& started their cockroach family

Now the kids came along there were boys & girls
& the little roaches asked if the whole world
Was always styrofoam, oh styrofoam
Momma started the tales from Grampa’s days
Said, “You’re right it wasn’t always this way.

See, they used to have things called buildings
& the humans had somethin’ called a house
& it’ll shock you all to hear this
They used to gas us to move us out.”

Now the little roaches shivered but momma just smirked
“The humans tried but it didn’t work
But they made styrofoam, oh my kind of home
Now the humans had things that they called brains
& how they worked I could never explain

See, they needed clean air for breathin’
& clean water to keep ’em alive
& if you want the truth of what happened
They all committed suicide

Now you can rest easy ’cause they’re no longer around
To try out their poisons & hunt us down
We’re safe in styrofoam, oh styrofoam
& tomorrow we’ll see if we can find
Some good ol’ plastic for a brand new slide.”

Rebel Ink Press Earth Day Blog Hop

Hi everyone welcome to the Earth Day Blog Hop.

**raises hand** Hello my name is Eden and I am a book lover.  Yes, I love the feel of a cherished book in my hands, I love the crisp feel of pages as they turn. I adore the smell of libraries, book stores. The visual display of shelf after shelf of books makes me giddy.  My dream room is swoon worthy. The castle library from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast would en’trance me and hold me willing captive. (((hangs head – sigh)))

I was part of the generation who said these “Gol darn new fangled electronic books that you could read on some kinda computer or phone or whachamagiggie” grumble grumble “They are a passing phase like eight track tapes…. It won’t last.”

Weight that out against a business conference I went too BEFORE e-books.  I would stuff my carry on with about 7 books to make it through the five day conference. I then often bought a couple more books while I was out there.

The time had to come. My house isn’t big enough for all the books I love. It is nigh on impossible to carry all the books I desire to read while I travel. I love the privacy of no one being able to see the cover of the juicy little naughty tid bit I’ve chosen for this afternoon’s reading adventure. I converted to the worship of eb00ks.

That doesn’t remove the sensual pleasure I have touching a book. But I’m a practical kinda girl.

And on the serious side, pulp, paper and book production can be a horrible polluter. Just drive through certain sections of GA and the Carolina’s near a Pulp mill.  Ewwwww what a rank aroma.  Imagine wet sour dog food. Tons of it.  That is a close approximation of the smell of a wood pulp mill.

So celebrate Earth Day with me and the crew of Rebel Ink Press.  Go on over there and visit some of the other RIP authors.

The blog hop runs the 22 through the 26th. So I’ll share some tidbits with you about the various books I have available via the Ebook format. Save a tree, Read an E-Book.

I am finding that the words are equally delicious and enjoyable even without the pages in my hands. LOL
