Author Spotlight – Welcome Joanne C. Berroa

Hello everyone. I met Joanne C. Berroa through my Publisher, Rebel Ink Press. I was pleased to learn more about her to share with you guys today. I find her to be a very talented, interesting woman.  Here’s Joanne C. Berroa:

1.  For My Life, My Heart My favorite character is definitely Sebastian. He’s smart, sexy, and important. He’s a Colonel with the Continental Army and is in every way in command of himself and his men. He’s been hurt by his family and his ex-fiance, but he survived despite being outcast. He is protective of the heroine (Elena) and loves deeply and when he gives his heart, he is totally and forever committed. He’s the epitome of the ultimate man.

2.  I get inspired for my stories by imaging a time and place I would have liked to live. I think of myself as the heroine and then develop the ideal man for “me.”

3.  My late husband Paul R. Rothweiler was a multi-published author and we spent the days writing side by side. It was a very good time in my life.

4.  My Life, My Heart is a time travel romance, but could also be classified as a historical romance or contemporary romance. I write sensual romances, so I’d put the heat level at about 3.5.

5.  I began writing science fiction at age 12 and moved to romances at age 19. I always felt compelled to tell stories.

MyLifeMyHeart_Cover

My Life, My Heart Blurb:

How does a brilliant and independent woman from the 21st century fall in love with a dashing colonel in the 18th century?  How can that love survive the test of time to live on through three centuries?

Elena Martin is a beautiful and intelligent time traveler who experiences the kind of love one only reads about in novels when she finds herself back in time during the American Revolution.  Sebastian Rogers is a ruggedly handsome colonel in the Continental Army who sweeps her off her feet.  Faced with the daunting decision to stay forever in the past or go forward in time to the present, she makes the ultimate decision for the sake of love to stay and forge a life with Sebastian.

But there are dark clouds on their horizon and Elena soon finds the need to return to her own century where she is strangely drawn to another man, Brett Darby, her Princeton University professor.  Brett harbors an unsettling secret—he can see and feel things that can’t be explained by reason or logic.  What powers do Elena and Brett hold over each other and why are their lives irrevocably intertwined?

My Life, My Heart is a novel that leaves the reader feeling good about love, life, and death.  It’s a story about endurance, hope, and a love so strong it defies time.

Rebel Elite HolidayBlog Hop Welcomes Nancy LaPonzina

Nardi_Point_CoverNardi Point by Nancy LaPonzina

  1. Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

Though Laurinda Elliot is the main heroine, I love Leyla Jo Piper her best friend … and so do so many readers! Leyla Jo is that great combination of heart friend, intuition, clinical expertise as a nurse practitioner practicing alternative health modalities. She’s African-American and when she finds prehistoric Native American artifacts on a home building site in the Nardi Point subdivision, her full heritage is revealed. In fact, because of her popularity, her story is expanded in the forthcoming sequel, Paths through the Garden!

2What inspires you for your stories?

Archaeology, metaphysical issues, alternative health remedies, nature, relationships, dreams, astrology. The title Nardi Point was presented to me in a dream. When I played with the arrangement of letters, I got Indian Port … and that’s exactly what Nardi Point is all about. So mysterious the way the muse works! I always hope to listen carefully.

3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.

I’m very sensitive to audio impressions. The sound of wind chimes wafting in the breeze can put me into an altered state.

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

My stories are contemporary women’s fiction, with a sweet or low heat level. In fact, Nardi Point was awarded the Chanticleer Books & Media, First Place 2012 Published Novel for Contemporary Women’s Fiction!

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

In grammar school I was writing short mystery stories and illustrating them. Nancy Drew was my biggest inspiration. Also, I have an addiction to paper, notebooks, and journaling.

Rebel Elite Holiday Blog Hop Welcomes Lila Munro

I am thrilled to welcome Lila Munro as my guest today to talk about herself and her newest release “Assumed Calling”.  This is a synergistic day being 12/12/12.  There will never be another double digit triple date.

While I’ve never met Lila in person, we first met August 3, 2011 when she sent me my first official “Welcome to Rebel Ink Press” email that started me on the journey of setting up all the business end of the author/promoter business.  LOL. I’m so pleased to have her here for you to visit with today.

AND, don’t forget to follow the link on my page to compete for the drawing. We’re giving away a Kindle and a bunch of gift cards and a swag basket. Don’t miss out on your chance to win.

Welcome Welcome Lila. So tell us……

1. Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

Characters are like children for me. I love them all equally, but uniquely and I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite. However, believe it or not, the person I want to know more about the most is Dillon. He’s a secondary character who plays an enormous role in the protection of Nicki. He first appeared in book two of the Identity series, True Identity, as a budding Master in Steele Image, and my, my, my how Dillon did grow into a most sexy and intriguing man. He’s getting his own story when I kick off the Steele Image series next year.

2. What inspires you for your stories?

Everything. Living life in a military community lends to a host of ideas. My neighbors really should be nice to me, they never know where they might end up. Ha!

3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.

If I told it, everyone would know and it’d no longer be something no one knows. 😉 A girl has to retain some secrets. Right?

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

This is most definitely a 5 flame read in the BDSM realm.

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

I’ve been making up stories since before I could technically write. (I guess when you’re two they’re actually called lies—haha) Now I’m all grown and can call them books—surprising what semantics can do for a person’s reputation. J And the passion has always been there although at times has been neglected.

Thanks Eden for having me over today. My latest release is Assumed Calling, the final book in my Identity series…

200x300AssumedCalling

Like the beat of a primal drum whispering the rhythm of an ancient dance, the lifestyle calls…

At the seasoned age of fifty-six, Allen Bourke has resigned himself to the fact he’ll probably never find someone to top he can also love. While he’s had wives and lovers, none of them endured and he’s come to the conclusion the clock’s ticking and age is working against him. Then a very intriguing Nicki Cartwright pings on his radar at what Allen determines will be his last house party. He can’t help but notice while he and his friends are getting older, the players emerging on the scene are forever getting younger. Nicki’s no exception. Determined to resist the vibes humming between them, he only agrees to service her after his old friend, Kyle Montgomery, convinces him it’s entirely feasible. Then it’s brought to Allen’s attention who Nicki really is. Knowing their pasts are forever intertwined, as hard as he tries to ignore his heart, he finds himself yielding to the tides of fate.

Born to senatorial royalty, Nicki Cartwright has spent her entire life trying to shield her mother from her father’s wrath while drifting further and further into a world where panic is normal and anxiety is always on the edge of her reality. Tired of burning the candle at both ends and forever trying to live up to the picture of All-American perfection her father James Cartwright touts as his ace in the hole during election cycles, Nicki finds herself on the path of self-discovery in search of relief from the stressors continually swamping her mind. What she doesn’t expect is to find who she thought she was is truly just a shadow of the person she really is. And what scares her most is the fact Allen, the only person she thought she could trust, has been holding a secret since before she was born which could destroy her entire family.

Rebel Elite Holiday Blog Hop Welcomes Donna Steele

My guest today is Donna Steele, another Rebel Ink Press Elite Author. The Holiday Blog Hop has been exciting this far and I hope you’ve found some new books for your TBR “To Be Read” pile. Don’t forget to follow the hot link on my page for the Rebel Ink Press Drawing for the Kindle, gift cards and swag basket.

I visited with Donna and asked her a few questions to give you the opportunity to get to know the lady behind the computer.

1. Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

It has to be Ashley. She was neglected and abused as a child, but she escaped and grew into her strength. She proved that she really could reach for her dreams.

2. What inspires you for your stories?

Just about everything. I never know when a phrase or a picture is going to flip that switch. There’s a file on the laptop with “ideas” sometimes no more than a sentence.  Attending the RWA* meetings helps too – I never know what the energy in that room with do to me!

(* RWA – Romance Writers of America – a professional organization for romance writers)

3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.

I wrote my first “novel” when I was eleven. No, it will never see the light of day again, but I did so enjoy writing it and I guess I’ve never really quit.

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

Homecoming would be contemporary women’s fiction, which is a departure for me. I usually write science fiction or paranormal – but this story wanted to be written.

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

Well eleven, but serious writing began a couple of years ago.  A dear friend and mentor, Char Chaffin, published her first book – Promises to Keep – we had written together in the past for fun and she kind of kicked my butt out of the chair and said to finish up some of the ideas I had scribbled away on for ages.  Can never thank her enough.

Homecoming

Blurb – Homecoming by Donna Steele

Upon the death of her grandmother, Ashley returns home to sell the family home.  There she discovers Matt comfortably ensconced in the guest house, taking care of the family estate.

His love for the architecture and past grandeur of the old mansion tempers Ashley’s memories of neglect and abuse at the hands of the matriarch, and the town.  As she and Matt work together, they begin to get the place, and their lives, back in shape.

  1. Who is your favorite character in Adventures Above the Aether and why?

It’s hard to answer considering how many characters I include. Those who embark on the adventure represent certain aspects of myself or role models I grew up with. The protagonist, Solomon Hanson shares many of my dreams and thoughts, but he’s braver and more daring than I. My favorite, Nikolai Kibalchich, is a man who’s lost touch with his humanity through his years in a Russian prison and subsequent efforts to overthrow the Czarist government. Cruelty begets cruelty and it takes an unlikely act of compassion to open his eyes to other avenues and his heart to love. His is a story of self-loathing and redemption.

What inspires you for your stories?

Short answer; questions. I find myself pondering a number of questions or concepts that drive me to develop a story that helps others ask the same questions. Science fiction often depicts a current issue within an exotic backdrop where the absence of contemporary references allow readers to examine issues from a new perspective and possibly reevaluate their opinions and views.

Tell us something no one else knows about you.

I have Asperger’s Syndrome. To be fair, my wife and a few people know this, but it’s not public knowledge. Though I’ve learned to interact with people it takes considerable effort and I’m often rude without realizing it. For that reason I work extra hard to be on my best behavior when I can; it tends to make up for my ‘oddness’.

What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

Mine is a tale of science fiction within a historical context; it’s also been called Steampunk. I proudly wear that moniker around those who know it and cringe at my own attempts to define it. As to my ‘heat’ level… while ‘Adventures’ is not a romance novel per se, it has two romantic plots within. Like many classic movies my couples kiss and caress up until the camera fades to black; the rest I leave off the page.

When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

Passion began after my brain surgery. A full life requires we find our greatest passion and engage it completely. So many people have dreams but never take the chances or commence the hard work it takes for them to ever get off the ground.

My first foray into creative writing began in high school where our teacher would let us write on Fridays while she graded the week’s papers. In the final portion of the class she’d ask students to read their works. I loved the way some of my stories entertained my peers. Unfortunately I dropped writing afterward in favor of ‘normal grownup stuff’ only to revisit it in my forties.

Rebel Elite Holiday Blog Hop Welcomes Michel Prince

Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

Obviously I love the main characters, but there are some side characters that really just pull at me.  Mr. Jeffreys, Oscar’s father is probably the most steadfast person I’ve ever written.  I’m glad I wrote him at this time in his life because after he lost his wife he wasn’t this strong.  He’s recovering from being a shell of a father with his son who in many ways became the adult in the situation.  He feels guilty about it and is now hyper vigilant when it comes to protecting those he loves, even if it’s from themselves.  His instant connection with Ellie and wanting to take her on as a family member is the first time that Ellie can feel unconditional love.  He provides an anchor for her that even her soul mate Oscar cannot provide.  Everyone needs a home that they can go to no matter what and Mr. Jeffreys is that home.

What inspires you for your stories?

What doesn’t inspire me is a better question, it can be a picture, a song, a breeze that carries a scent.  All can turn in something.  I never know where or when I’ll be inspired I just try to keep the inspiration around for long enough to record it in some form or another.

Tell us something no one else knows about you.

I keep getting asked this question…I wonder if there’s anything left to divulge.  Hmm…lets see…I guess some people know this, but not too many.  When I was younger I spent a good six years trying to figure out a way to become an astrophysicist so I could work for NASA…and no I wasn’t 6 years old it was in jr and high school.  Yes I’m a nerd.

What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

Genre…the thing that makes me grumble the most. Let me put this as my disclaimer. The only genre that really matters is the last one in the list. So hold on because of the way we have to tag things these days the genre for the Chrysalis series is a cross-over interracial paranormal romance. The first two books are interracial mature young adult paranormal romance. See why I hate genres. The heat level for the first book is three with the remaining books being between a three and four.

When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

Yes I was influenced by the Twilight series…more specifically Stephanie Meyer.  She made a comment in an interview that the series started because she woke from a dream and started to write.

That’s not exactly how it went for me, but it was close.  I’d written a prolog a half dozen times then finally after hearing her interview I decided to see what happened next…the flashback to when my two characters met became Chrysalis.  Since then I’ve just let my day dreams hit the page instead of just rattle around my head driving me nuts.

Chrysalis_Cover-1

Chrysalis Blurb

In the annals of dysfunctional families, the Chisholm’s are working their way to the top. Drug abuse, an unwed mother with multiple fathers, and the questionable cash flow for the ‘pretty one’. All this from a seemingly normal, two parent middle class family. But were the choices truly made of their free will?

Bad choices are a Chisholm family trait, one that confounds the youngest child, Ellie, who’s trying to separate herself by making smart decisions. And falling for Oscar Jeffreys, the hottest guy at school, would be number one on the list of Chisholm family disasters. Yet the crazy part is it’s not a one sided attraction. Somehow Ellie has caught Oscar Jeffreys’ eye. Sure she could see the barriers between them. Race, age, popularity. They were at opposite ends of the spectrum. But a demon set to destroy her family? She can’t see that.

Oscar provides security and acceptance Ellie never imagined she deserved. As the passion of first love grows, Ellie honestly believes she has a chance to beat the odds and live a happy, normal life. Then her world collapses around her. With the help of a guardian angel, Ellie learns of a world that has unknowingly surrounded her for years. And she’ll have to find strength buried deep inside to save not only her future, but flush out and stop the demon in her midst.

And Ellie will have to learn that sometimes the hardest lesson about growing up is accepting that you’re worth more.

TheBeam_Cover-1smThe Beam Blurb

When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.-Corinthians 13:11

There comes a time in everyone’s life when they must put aside their childish ways. In the past year, Ellie Chisholm has fallen into the security of her relationship with Oscar Jeffreys, emerging with a stronger sense of herself. BUt now Ellie’s mother has started inserting herself into Ellie’s life, treating her as if she were a child even though Ellie has begun to make very adult decisions for her future. Having finally consummated her relationship with Oscar, Ellie learns the powers inside of her stretch further than vaporizing demons.

Maria, the demon bent on revenge, has been reigned in by God but that doesn’t stop her from disrupting and threatening those around Ellie and Oscar. Ellie becomes off balance as Maria switches strategy and attempts to destroy Ellie from the outside. Now the gauntlet has been thrown down. Ellie must help her family achieve positive change and finally break the tie between her mother and Gaap or risk losing everyone she loves.

Can Ellie maintain her sanity while walking the last steps as a child?
