Summer Lovin The movie “Dirty Dancing” is one of my all time favorite coming of age movies. I love “baby’s” journey into womanhood. With the theme of our blog hop Summer Lovin, I tried to think back to remember one of those summer loving moments in my past. Names are changed to protect the guilty. LOL.  I spent a couple of summers with relatives who lived on a small key off one of the islands of the bay in the Caribbean.  One of those teenage summers the community organized a festival to commemorate the landing of some famous explorer. We were on a boat sailing around the island to re-enact the landing of this FAMOUS explorer. The object of my summer crush was an ‘older’ man. Okay maybe he was twenty. Tanned brown from working in the sun. Hair streaked, sun kissed blond highlighted the brown shaggy strands. His eyes were the most memorable feature. They sparkled when he talked. Oh, His eyes were a tawny golden color like a lion. We had one glorious afternoon kissing in the rain. I don’t know what happened to him. So many years  have passed. I wonder what kind of life he ended up having. He remains my golden eyed pirate, a fantasy of my past. Share your favorite Summer Lovin story.

Author Spotlight Jane Wakely

Welcome to Jane Wakely today for Author Spotlight. I’m delighted to have Jane here to talk about her most recent project and herself as an author. Those who read all the way through the post will have a reward (potential) at the end.

Jane Wakely (Author Bio)

Jane has always been a writer. Even when she took a break from it for a few years, she couldn’t keep the stories from filling her head. As an avid romance reader, she finally decided her stories needed to be free, and she started writing again.

Reading and liking all genres of romance; it makes sense that she would write that way too. Her stories range from sweet to erotic, contemporary to paranormal, and a bunch in-between. She loves all romance genres, and all levels of spice.

Jane lives on the east coast of the United States with her loving husband, daughter and their Miniature Dachshund.

 1. Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

If I have to choose a favorite, then I choose Matt. The reason is because I sympathize with him the most. In this series, shifters are incredibly lonely until they meet “the one.” The potential to let despair take over their lives is sometimes overpowering for a shifter. Matt tries to stay positive, keeps looking and most important, keeps living, despite his loneliness.

2. What inspires you for your stories?

Usually other books inspire me! I try to create stories that my readers love to read—just like many authors have done for me!

3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.

Hmmm…well something very few people know is I’m afraid of large bodies of water. Swimming pools are fine, but oceans, lakes, etc…No thanks!

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

Jenn’s Wolf is a Paranormal/Shifter Romance with a heat level of 2/3!

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

A long time ago…I started writing! LOL I always wanted to be an author, but instead of pursuing my dream, I let it go for almost 20 years! Then one day I got tired of creating great stories in my head and decided to write them down again!

My new release:

Jenn's Wolf Cover

Title: Jenn’s Wolf

Blurb:

Jenn is used to being overlooked by men. She’s short, slim, shy and her past keeps her guarded against others—especially men. It also gets her labeled as having a “good personality.” When she sees Matt for the first time, she realizes he’s the first man she’s willing to take a chance on.

Matt is a wolf shifter worried that he’ll never find his mate. Without a mate, a shifter’s life is incredibly drawn-out and lonely. Willing to try anything, he agrees to a blind date with Jenn and is stunned to find out she’s the one.

A misunderstanding interrupts their first night together and leaves them both miserable. After determining she may have overreacted, Jenn apologizes and they agree to start over. When Matt tells her about his wolf, she has to decide whether to trust her heart or run from the only man she’s ever wanted.

Excerpt:

When Christina left, Jenn continued to ogle the tantalizing man. No one had stirred her like he did in a long time. The thought of a chance with him made her want to cancel tomorrow’s blind date and wear a sign that said she was available for a night of fun. Jenn had no idea what had come over her, she never approached guys or even made blatant plays for their attention.

Jenn knew that her short stature combined with her trim body that lacked curves and boobs was not appealing to men in the least. While she had a pretty face, she’d been told one too many times she had a great personality as well. Finding a man to be more than a friend was very difficult. Of course, she’d dated and had sex, but the men never stayed for long, always moving on to someone with more beauty, grace, style and curves.

She wanted to meet the man across the bar and the thought of approaching him crossed her mind. Normally she’d trash the idea immediately, but something about him made her feel braver than usual. If he separated himself from his friends and she acted quickly, maybe she could at least see him up close and say hello.

Jenn knew if she shared her plan, Christina would help her. Glancing to her friend, she noticed Christina was about to pass the group when the hot guy Jenn had her eye on turned, said something to Christina, then wrapped his arms around her friend and kissed her.

Deflated, Jenn watched the couple as their lips met and met again. It was more than a simple peck and though their arms and hands didn’t roam, she could tell when their tongues did. Jealousy overwhelmed her and she pushed it down as she looked away.

Author Spotlight – Tara Kingston

It is my pleasure to host the talented Tara Kingston today in the Author Spotlight. Her “Love Potion #7” is a must read. Comment on today’s post to be put in the drawing.  One random post will be selected to win an e-book copy of “Love Potion #7”.  Winner to be announced on Friday, March 8th.

1. Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

My favorite character in Love Potion #7 is Chelsea, the heroine. She’s independent, fiercely loyal, and she’s not above doing something just a bit wicked. My favorite thing about Chelsea is her sense of humor. The way she laughs at herself is one aspect of her character I can really relate to in my own life.

2. What inspires you for your stories?

Usually, I’ll get the inspiration for a character first. In some cases, a certain celebrity will inspire a kernel of an idea, and I take it from there. I’m a huge football fan, and I have to confess that a couple of my favorite players inspired the hero in Love Potion #7. In other cases, especially with my historical romances, historical figures and events will inspire a “what if” scenario that gets me thinking heroes, heroines, and romance.

3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.

Hmmm…something no one else knows…that’s a hard one…okay, here goes. When I was young, my mother introduced me to stories that were essentially gothic romances, and they remain one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Victoria Holt and Barbara Michaels were and still are two of my favorite authors. The love scenes are strictly behind closed doors, and there’s an air of mystery and the supernatural…love those stories. I’m strongly thinking of writing my own, but with steamy love scenes that would give the ghosts of the manor something to talk about.

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

Love Potion #7 is an erotic romance with paranormal elements. It’s steamy hot!

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

I started writing in elementary school, scribbling stories in a notebook, and I haven’t stopped. Reading is one of my passions, and this lifelong love ignited my passion for creating my own characters and telling my own stories. I began writing with an eye toward publication about five years ago and found a local writers’ group. The fellowship and encouragement of other writers spurred me on to complete my novel. It doesn’t matter how many stories I write…there’s always another one brewing in my mind. Please stop by my website, http://www.tarakingston.com, to learn more about my romances.

My Guest Today – Michelle Miles

I started on a WIP a year ago named Phoenix Fire. Seriously people… there are only so many good titles in the cosmos and I have a horrible time creating titles. One WIP carries the title Haydn and Rhys story. I’m really going to have to find a name for it. Yet, I digress. LOL

Recently, I lifted the main character out of my WIP phoenix story put her in a completely different plot, wrote a completely different protagonist against her and created Phoenix Reborn. It is scheduled to publish in 2013 I give you that bit of back story to tell you how I met Michelle Miles. When I see the title Phoenix anything, my ears perk up and I take a look.

Michelle Miles

I stumbled across a promo for Michelle Miles new book Phoenix Fire.

Once I read the blurb I was excited about the story. What a great concept! and I had to add yet another book to my to be read pile. LOL. It is a VERY clever, interesting and hot.

I contacted Michelle and asked her to interview with me for my web today to promote her story “Phoenix Fire”.

Here is a picture of she and her son at The top of the McDonald Observatory while they were on Vacation in The Davis Mountains, West Texas

You have a beautiful family Michelle. Thank you for agreeing to visit my blog today. I feel like I’ve met a kindred friend.  I love your cover art.

1. Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

I love Elena. Elena is tough and hard as nails. She’s been through hell and all she wants is freedom and a life of peace. Readers will relate to her because she’s strong and strong-willed. She doesn’t fit into any mold. She believes in right and wrong and fights for it. She protects the weak. In Elena’s world, things are black and white; there are no shades of gray. Until Cassius comes along. 😉

2. What inspires you for your stories? Different things. I never know when a new idea is going to hit. Sometimes I dream them, other times there’s a particular subject I want to write about and research it until a story idea comes to me.
3. Tell us something no one else knows about you HMM. I don’t know what that would be! One of my guilty pleasures is watching Dancing with the Stars. I’m hooked.
4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

PHOENIX FIRE is a fantasy romance and I’d say that it’s sensual.

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author? I dabbled in writing when I was in high school. I started writing for publications in 2001 and finally got published in 2006. I love telling stories and getting these characters our my head. It’s the ultimate dream job.BLURB:

Kill, or be killed.

Elena Gaius is Hixyl’s most heralded gladiatrix, catching the Emperor’s eye with her unspoiled beauty and fiery temper. Determined to let no man have her, he forces her into a life of unwanted accolades—for slaughter in the Games. With independence out of reach, Elena knows each day could be her last.

Cassius Antonius is a former general hired by an underground secret order to assassinate the Emperor. When he refuses, they take away the only thing precious to him—his freedom. Forced into servitude, he meets Elena and manipulates her into helping him, forming a shaky alliance and a searing romance.

The two become unwitting pawns in the struggle to save Hixyl from the Emperor’s tyranny. But plans spin out of control with the discovery of their secret tryst, and for their ultimate act of betrayal, the Emperor demands one last entertainment—to be pitted against each other in the Games in a fight to the death.

Promotion Secrets, Undiscovered

Catchy title? I have to admit I haven’t discovered the secret of self-promotion. That’s why I say undiscovered. I tweet, I Face Book, I blog, I guest blog, I pay for advertisement, I’ve had promotional video’s made, I’ve made my own book trailers.  It is all like so much unknown, at times,  frantic activity.  Somewhat like swimming in a blender.

I’m just a real person here trying to realize the dream of bringing my characters to life in hopes that someone will actually read the stories and enjoy them as much as I do. Oh and actually buy them rather than downloading them free from the pirates. I don’t think there is anything more simple or basic than than for a writer.

Yet, we are in the era of self publishing. It is alike a wild west frontier. The question so many authors are asking themselves is ‘How do I get through the volume of work out there (in all levels of quality) to get into the readers hands. I will say I am twice blessed to have found a publishing home at Rebel Ink Press.

However, we’ve all seen those sensations go nuclear. It’s like a cinderella story on steroids the way some books take on a life of their own with apparently very little effort and sometimes as a rather poor quality product. IMHO. A cult following arises and book becomes sensation, soaring to the top of the New York Times list, movies negotiations follow.

As writers, who’ve dedicated years to the craft of writing, we often shake our heads and….while being very happy for the successful princess of the day…. still…completely gobstobbered.  We think, ‘So n So’ writes such a better crafted story etc. the gobsmacked self dialogue continues. If someone could discover what causes the meteoric phenomena and bottle it? OMG We’d I think we’d line up around the block for a taste of the magic potion in hopes of a glimmer of the success.

So, at the end of the day. I’m just a girl with a pencil who writes and hopes to find readers who are pleased with the journey I take them on, between the pages of a book.

In the meantime, take a look at these video book trailers for a different kind of creative teaser to the stories I have out there for your enjoyment.

Fantasy Man Monday

I chose Chris Hemsworth as Fantasy Man Monday.  He was awesome in The Huntsman.  Some of his other roles were Thor. Yes More awesomeness.  And I learned he played George Kirk, yes James T. Kirk’s father.  Short, heart rending scene crashing the Enterprise, saying good by to his laboring wife by helping her decide on a name for his son.  Made you cry in the opening moments of the movie.
