Cover Reveal Blog Tour

Good morning Eden Glenn and readers! Thanks for allowing me to share on your blog today. Pulp Friction 2014 is kicking off and I’ve got a gorgeous new cover to share and an advance copy to give away. *sips coffee* For those in the audience who don’t know me, I’m Lee Brazil, author of m/m romance, and proud member of the Pulp Friction organization.

That’s what brings me here today.

What’s Pulp Friction? Well you might ask! It is about the most complicated undertaking I’ve attempted recently. 4 Authors, 4 series, 20 books, one fiery finale.

See, Laura Harner, Havan Fellows, Tom Webb and I create an interlocking web of mm romance serial fiction that culminates in a single story. Last year we took on Atlanta, and this year we’re moving into Flagstaff.

I followed a character I created, who kind of got nudged out of what was supposed to be his primary role last year.

Cannon Malloy, neurosurgeon, was supposed to be Chance DuMont’s partner. Things just didn’t work out that way. He was, as they say, too late to get the worm. *blinks* Er…early bird gets the worm, right? So being late, by about five years, means Cannon gets no worm. Not that I’m saying Chance was a worm, though I hear some people *coughs* called him a variety of names during his interactions with Rory Gaines, who turned out to be the genuine love of his life.

Well, since I allowed Rory to steal Cannon’s love, I figured I had to give him a second chance *hehe.  See what I did there?*

So Cannon picks up and moves to Flagstaff to get away from a memory of a love he really can’t have (among other things)…and that’s when the snow starts falling. Which makes this gorgeous cover absolutely perfect.

Shifter’s Legacy and Duncan Black

Duncan is the bad boy mystery man in our story.

3K43M73H15Nd5E95H9d1ua9422245f57d1a0e

I really fell for his character. Here is his first glimpse of Addison.

Draft:

“Jesus. There was a hurricane in tight jeans, just his brand of poison.

“That’s Mrs. Barnes. She and her husband run a wolf rescue just outside of town. They’re nice people.”

Married poison.

“No doubt.” He finished the cigarette. Grinding it out with his foot allowing it to join the filter graveyard littered around the porch.

This was getting him fucking nowhere. Might as well see if he could reach the city. He wouldn’t. But all of a sudden it looked like a good day to push 600 pounds of steel.”

And, here’s his first altercation with Addison as she sizes up the drifter.

Draft:

“She stopped to size the drifter up. Boots scuffed and worn, jeans the same, belt buckle some military motif, t-shirt covered by chambray button down more of the same. Her eyes drifted over the missing button on her way up. His face, sun browned, unshaven facial hair, over all scruffy and yes a little weary. Clear blue eyes watching her. Was he sizing her up too? What was that look, Amusement? Disdain? No matter, he was a drifter and all she wanted was a weeks’ worth of hired muscle.

“I’ve got a job building some fence. Maybe finish up in a week or two. Are you interested?”

“I might be.” His expression didn’t change. He had all the interest and enthusiasm of discussing the weather on a hot summer day.

“Do you have any experience building fence?”

“I might have.”

Something about his very nature inflamed her sense of pissed. He should be grateful for someone willing to take a chance on hiring him, infuriating over confident man. Shit, just what she needed to have around the rescue another man of few words that made her say bad words in her private thoughts. And, just perhaps his abundance of confidence made her lack of the same quality more glaring. She held her façade intact, a barrier of protection between him and all her many deficits.

“I’ll pay seven dollars an hour, if you know how to work.” She put her hands on her hips to hide how much he ruffled her calm.

“You got an auger for the post holes?”

Okay. He knew a little bit about fence building.

“No, I’ve got post-hole diggers.” She stood her ground, tossing her hair back over her shoulder with a shrug. She didn’t know anyone in town that she could get to come out to the rescue to build fence. She really needed him.

“Then it’ll cost you at least ten an hour.” He looked her straight on. His clear blue eyes, keen.

Hmm. Did he like the challenge of bargaining?

He reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out a collapsed pack of cigarettes.

“I could get a Mexican for six an hour.” She half turned, pulling her purse higher over her shoulder. The façade threatening to crumble and leave her exposed. Monroe looked on watching their banter back and forth like a bobble headed doll, his wide grin showing more of his missing teeth than the four or five left in front to form his smile.

“I don’t see any Mexicans.” The drifter drawled stressing the word see, pulling the last cigarette out of the pack and placing the filter between his lips.

Was that a grin he hid with the motion?

Monroe handed him a box of matches.

Last cigarette, no matches. Confidence restored, she tossed her parting shot over her shoulder. “Eight an hour, not a penny more, oh and room and board. Be out at my place when the materials truck arrives to help unload it.”

She walked off, satisfaction in her step. Yes, she was getting the fence. She wouldn’t have to listen to her neighbor’s condescending and covertly threatening, see-here-little-missy discussions any longer. And her wolves would be safe. She would have done an air fist pump. but she knew those steely eyes watched her exit.”

I hope you’ve enjoyed howling at the moon with me!

Shifter’s Legacy coming spring 2014. I think you will enjoy.

Stay tuned for release parties and events later this spring.

“Shifter’s Legacy” Coming this Spring from Rebel Ink Press

Addison has hopes and dreams. There are so many things that worry her. Cares she carries on her shoulders. She has fantasies too. Through it all she adores her husband Nathan and son Logan.

Her life is going to spin around when her husband turns one of those secret fantasies into reality and proposes to invite Duncan into their relationship.

Draft Excerpt

“Addison Barnes thrust the Jeep’s transmission lever into park with a ruthless shove. Damn Jeep. Damn fence. Damn wolves. Damn Nathan. She hated dealing with neighbors at dawn over a broken fence. Thank God none of the wolves had gotten out. The Jeep had required a jump to start in order to get into town. Right now the freakin Rescue was the least of her problems. Logan hadn’t been restless which meant she didn’t sleep either.  She’d put up with the pack stomping around her house till all hours last night, with their ‘I’m a werewolf shifter.’ Oh so holier than thou lowly human attitudes. Then, Nathan’s irascible temper like he was P.M.S.ing at whatever they were grousing and complaining about. Half she’d not understood and half she’d ignored. She was sick of taking that damn high road.”

Shifter’s Legacy a Character Reveal for Wolf Moon

In Shifter’s Legacy, we get a visit from Makala and Beverly, “Beverly’s Secret”. They are wrangled into baby sitting Baby Logan to allow Nathan and Addison their weekend romantic getaway. Only Nathan knows about Duncan’s invitation to the party. Fireworks ensue on that regard. But back on task.

Draft Excerpt:

“Makala tried to ignore the shrill ring of the phone. The sound screamed at her in counter rhythm with the Oh Shit internal litany pounding at her temples.

Beverly held the ringing phone out to her. “Makala! The phone is ringing again. It’s Nathan. You can’t keep ignoring his calls. It’s the first time they’ve left Logan overnight. They’re bound to worry.”

Makala shook her head. No way she could talk to him. It was up to Bev. She answered, “Hi Nathan” -a little too bright. Makala couldn’t hear his side of the conversation and wasn’t sure she wanted to.

Bev responded. “Yes, yes everything is fine here. We’ve been playing with Logan. He’s such a little animal… “She paused, listening. “Hmm, oh yes, having fun. You wouldn’t know him… Sure, sure everything is fine here. You two don’t give it a thought. Enjoy your weekend. Bye now.” Bev disconnected the call and walked over to where Makala was standing to join her in staring at the evidence of the little white lie.”

Challenges of Edits “Shifter’s Legacy”

I’m living in edit Hell. Most writers know where I am. They may even be here too. However, one is always alone in edit hell.  Well wishers try to assist, but it is a solitary place that’s almost impossible to get out of with help. These decisions are mine and mine alone.

These lovely concepts are ones I’m grappling with today.

What would werewolves argue about in a pack meeting?

What really is vivacious? How would you describe it through action. How would someone act that is vivacious and the reader get vivacious?

In the pursuit of good, better, great, AWESOME FANTASTIC THE ANGELS ARE SINGING…the first answer isn’t always the best answer. And so I ponder and think and ponder. That perplexed face staring at the computer screen really is me working.

I am dealing with the buzz of was, was, was and the ringing tingle of ly, ly, ly.

Tweaking words to stronger choices, clearer choices. Saying more, saying less. Oh it does make my wee head spin.

Wolf Moon – A Reveal of “Shifter’s Legacy”

Nathan Barnes has a journey. He’s working hard to assemble all the wolf shifters he can find in the small rural area. Some days it is much like hearding cats.

“He counted silently to ten while he composed his thoughts into the response his pack needed. Leaders led, which didn’t mean explaining every decision. What it did mean was seeing to the needs of his pack. Tempers continued to flare around the living room of the modest farmhouse, headquarters of the Chinsequet Wolf Rescue.”

Photo : Clkr.com

Nathan is learning to be a leader and he is going to make mistakes along the way. Quinten has always pushed to be the pack’s second in command. Most days he’s there waiting for Nathan to fail so he can take control of the pack.

Nathan is a new father. His son Logan is about nine months old. He’s a good father and finds himself torn. His wife fears the day their baby might exercise his genetics and shift. Yet, Nathan longs for that day as proof. It will mean continuation of their subspecies. Proof that shifters can breed with humans without it meaning extinction.

Wolf Moon

Last night was the “Wolf Moon” Jan 16th. The first full moon of winter.

2013-07-23 00.25.45

I decided to celebrate my up coming release from Rebel Ink Press, “Shifter’s Legacy” and the follow up story later next year “Shifter’s Alliance”

Legacy is volume 4 in “The Amethyst Desire Collection” recounting the mysterious travels of that magical necklace.

Today I’ll host a few posts that give you a peek into the world of were-shifters.

Nathan Barnes one of our heroes and Addison Barnes our heroine.

“Addison Barnes has loved Nathan since the moment she looked into the deep brown eyes of the injured grey wolf brought to her rescue facility and saw a human soul.”

Perhaps they need a prequel story about this event and how it all happened.

Duncan Black our second hero. Yes, we have a second hero. “Shifter’s Legacy is a menage erotic romance story.

“Duncan’s life changed forever when he’s stranded in the quaint (er…hole in the wall) north Florida town for a part for his motorcycle. The chance meeting with Addison gives him the opportunity to earn a little cash and regroup before heading on to his next destination, somewhere else. Addison and her curvy little ass are a significant distraction to his fence building chores. With his own secret to hide, he’s not prepared to be swept into a whole different world.”

And then there is the wee barn.

“Baby Logan in a fit of temper makes his first shift to wolf and unwittingly sets things into motion that will bring danger to all their lives. Now Nathan, Addison and Duncan must prepare the pack against the threat of genocide for their race.”

Hang out with me today as we meet the characters this world in “Shifter’s Legacy”

What a Joyous, Appreciate A Dragon Day

I appreciate dragons. I really do. I would venture to say I LOVE dragons. I have a wall shelf of dragon statues, dragon art. I’ve been called a dragon by x’es who shall remain nameless. Like an award show, the list is much too long. I will admit to some dragonic traits.

2014-01-16 11.27.20

Which calls to thought the concept that even the villain is the hero of his own story. Dragon Guardian isn’t without a heinous villain. This bad guy first made his appearance in “Dar’kind Promises” when he abducted Maura. That segment in time overlaps the action in “Dragon Guardian” (TBR May, 2014)

What do you think of this baddie?

Draft Excerpt.

Damn, for something so soft and thin, this hide was resilient. By appearance, the skin should part like hot butter. The harsh hacking sound of the skin ripping echoed through the cavernous room. The hide fought the knife like reinforced Kevlar. Maybe  the blade was too dull. He had to remove a large enough piece to discover the hidden secrets. The smaller pieces so far hadn’t revealed their magic.

Working always helped him think to sharpen the analytical edge of his scientific mind. He concentrated on his task as the icor and blood coated his gloved hands, pouring from the shallow slicing wounds to channel down the sides of the great beast and puddle on the floor. The monstrous creature’s body remained stretched and pinned by low frequency sound-waves interlaced with a heavy base throb. The right frequency pitch incapacitated the brute, a quite effective restraint with the help of pig iron chain, when experiments required direct hands-on contact. The wretched creature moaned between screams of rage and pain while he worked at peeling a bath sheet-sized swath of skin from the large dragon’s body.
