Healthy Life Choices. Vote for My Author Bio Photo

Lynn Marcello Photography did my bio photos.  Now, I can’t choose between them.  I have basically three to look at. Choice A Or Choice B I’m sorta liking this one but the photo would have to be cropped a little more for a bio photo, I think. or Choice C My pal Robert likes this one. He says the expression is dreamy.  I’m thinking the expression is more constipated. LOL and then again C in Black and White   Now if you want to put this in perspective.  In 2007 I started my weight loss program.  I weighed 225 pounds. And looked like this…..   I was a size 18 – 22 ish. Now I am a size 10, I weigh 170 pounds. I don’t get tired when I walk. I can run and play. I’m thinner because I made a conscious healthy life style choice.

1. Portion control – I accepted that I ate too much food for one person. I chose to eat less.

2. Food Choices – I chose to eat foods higher in fiber, cooked in a more healthy manner…baked, broiled, steamed rather than rolled in flour and fried. I eat less bread, potatoes, and pasta. I eat more vegetables. I eat less sugar. I eat less processed foods.

3. I started moving. First walking. Then walking more briskly, eventually running/jogging. I do the eliptical machine. I swim and play. I dance. I think I would like to loose twenty pounds more.

NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN FEELS. My clothes fit comfortable. I can move and feel good.

USDA website has great tools to help with weight loss.

I was not healthy. Now, I feel healthy. It has to be your decision to chose to be healthier. I had just survived breast cancer and reached the place in life where I knew changes had to be made. I was very unhappy with the way I felt and looked.

Don’t wait to have cancer to make the changes in your life style that can save your life.  Most health problems senior diabetes, high blood pressure, back pain, knee pain, shortness of breath…are problems associated with obesity.  Yes, I was obese. It’s not pretty. Of course I was tired.  I lost a whole 4th grader.  Anyone would be tired carrying around an extra fifty to eighty pounds.

Take a good look at your choices and make a promise to yourself to chose a healthier life. Start with the little things. Walk more, drink more water, control your portions. Say no to fried fatty foods, Say no to that extra portion. Pass on that candy bar today. Eat two cookies instead of ten. Good luck and if you need encouragement, I’m there for you. Just give me a shout out.

Fantasy Man Monday

Often a writer captivates her readership in ways that approach mega cult following.  That has to have a double edged sword appeal. Fans wield a powerful influence in the market place. Does a large enough fan base guarantee at NYT best seller list hit every time off the stand?

Fantasy Man Monday is dedicated to a character from J.R. Ward’s series of Black Dagger Brotherhood books.  She has truly started a landslide of readership admiration, advise and lol, sometimes disapproval that has been sustained through last count ten books with multiple story lines and character development.  Story threads spidering out into multiple books to reach their fruition.

Readers have adopted the Warden’s worlds and characters as real as they come. It is nothing short of a phenomena with huge egroup and web based chat groups branching off into podcast and chat discussions.  Readers like to devour her stories and then whoo hoo they like to talk about them, the characters and their own conspiracy theories for what will happen next and why.

I’ve heard the Black Dagger Brotherhood described as Twilite for adults, Twilite on crack. LOL. I was told these are the stories about the “real” vampires.  One thing is universal, everyone has an opinion.

The last book to release this past spring was Lover Reborn, the story of Tohrment…Tohr.

However you imagine Tohr, he is certainly fantasy man worthy. He had a great deal of heart wrenching grief and pain to travel through which captivated readers.

Maybe the appeal to the nurturer to lift his burden and spare him from further grief was the key to his devoted following.

Or maybe his complete and total hotness.  Who can say.

Have you ever read an author or series that made you want to immerse yourself in their world?  Something so powerful that you wanted it to be real and live in that place or time with those people?

Fantasy Man Monday

In honor of my new sweet ride, a Vulcan 750, Whoop.  Fantasy Man Monday has to be a man on a motorcycle.

Why do guys on motorcycles always have the bad edge with a little scruff.

Gerard Butler on a Bike.  *le Sigh*

What’s your favorite story of a motorcycle riding hero?

I’m doing research. There will eventually be a story involving motorcycle travel. It’s simmering on a back burner for now.

Fantasy Man Monday

Which older man has remained in his prime to win a place in your fantasy?

Lets take a vote for which Mature Fantasy Man is Hottie of the week.

Leroy Gibbs, fictional character but heart throb for many.

George Clooney, Would he be your number one older man?

Patrick Stewart, I have a special place for a man with that soft burr in his voice. Not to mention I’m a star treck nerd.

Renn Faire, Renn Faire Where For Art Thou Renn Faire?

My kids and I are true blue, died in the wool Nerds.  We were nerds before being a nerd was cool.

We love to go to Renaissance Faires. When we lived in Florida we would go to Hogstown each year around February. A couple of years ago, I made Sabra’s Costume from Drapes and Yardage I bought from the thrift store.

In true “Sound of Music” fashion she wore drapes.

I came across this clip from Carol Burnett Show doing a parody of “Gone with the Wind” It is so funny, you will pee your pants. There is a wearing drapes iconic moment there too. LOL

Here is daughter and I.  She is one one the left. The Shirt was recycled from horse showing. The taupe under dress with a thrift store purchase.  The outer dress was a section of drapes that I transformed from taking a pattern off the blue dress I am wearing.  And, yes I’ve lost more weight since this picture two years ago. LOL

So, in preparation for the Georgia Renn faire, I’ve bought some more drapes, sheets and a table cloth or two from the thrift store.  LOL pictures will be posted at a later date.  I’m going to create something *poof* magical!!!

“The Galloping Ghoul of Hockomock Swamp” Countdown

“The Galloping Ghoul of Hockomock Swamp” will release on June 3rd.  The count down has begun.  I’ll be zipping around on blog tours, posting here and there. Rebel Ink Press is getting a Party together for their authors with Goddess Fish Promotions, an ads on Night Owl Reviews, excerpt day on the Rebel Reasoning Blog.  It will be a blast.

However, Carl Franklin has made a magical cover for “The Galloping Ghoul of Hockomock Swamp”. I think it is the best cover I’ve seen well….since…well since he did the cover for Raynia’s Magic. LOLOLOL. He is a wizard of sorts! Magic for all things Graphic Artist in nature.  Thank you once again Carl!

Here is a taste

Fantasy Man Monday

I chose a couple of candidates for Fantasy Man Monday that you might find unusual. I just saw “Brokeback Mountain” Yeah, I know I’m way behind times.  I remember the huppla and mixed feelings about the movie.  It was based on a short story by Annie Proulx.  (SPOILERS). These too men are Fantasy Man Monday Hottie worthy. What bigger fantasy than hidden love?

I love the story.  It was moving, thought provoking, tender.  Enormous sexual tension played out on the screen from the first scene of their meeting.

It was so much a story of the loss of a road not taken. It is a story that will have impact on my life.

The New York Times review of the film, critic Stephen Holden writes: “Both Mr. Ledger and Mr. Gyllenhaal make this anguished love story physically palpable. Mr. Ledger magically and mysteriously disappears beneath the skin of his lean, sinewy character. It is a great screen performance, as good as the best of Marlon Brando and Sean Penn.”[26] In a review in Rolling StonePeter Travers states: “Ledger’s magnificent performance is an acting miracle. He seems to tear it from his insides. Ledger doesn’t just know how Ennis moves, speaks and listens; he knows how he breathes. To see him inhale the scent of a shirt hanging in Jack’s closet is to take measure of the pain of love lost.”[2 (from Wikkepedia)

I like the way the reviewer said, “anguished love story physically palatable”.  That is exactly the way I felt it. His loss was a visceral thing.  Heath Ledger was amazing as Ennis.  He as a person, completely disapeared into the character. Like the reviewer said, “tears it from his insides.”

Both actors were wonderful in the roles they were given. A hidden love affair spanning decades. That to fill the void left by only occasional visits with Ennis, Jack had an affair with the local Ranch Foreman, not the foreman’s wife as he told Ennis. That he was beat to death for being “gay” not an accidental tire blow out as his wife told Ennis.  All veiled subtext slid into the story line in a masterful way.

So powerful that the happiest time in Jack’s life was one short summer on Brokeback Mountain. Who, even in death was denied his request for his ashes to be scattered on the mountain. How symbolic that he didn’t get what he wanted in life or death. His ashes would be buried in the family plot.

So much conveyed in Jack’s mothers eyes as she looked at Ennis allowing him to place the shirt and jacket into a tattered paper bag.

Who saw the movie?  What did you think?

How different is the climate of our world now compared to when the movie aired in 2005?

I would love to hear your comments about the story.

Fantasy Man Monday

Monday….Fantasy Men.  *Sigh*

This Monday has me thinking about men in kilts.  My kids and I have enjoyed visiting Ren fairs. In costume o’course.  We’ve found a fun one to attend in GA this spring.  It is open every Sat and Sun from mid April until June.  The Georgia Renaissance Festival looks like just as much fun as Hogstown was back in FL.

One of the weekends in early May has five dollar discount for motorcycle riders.  Check it out.

So our Fantasy Man Monday comes from the web page of Karen Marie Moning Best Selling Author.  Makes me all hot and thirsty at the same time. LOL

Karen Marie Moning forum about men in kilts has wonderful! pictures.  It is a must browse for this Monday Morning
