Dar’kind Promises – Secret Four

Verucca Toadswizzler has meddled in the affairs of the WyrmArach Dimension for many many years. She has her own secret about the birth of the royal twins.

When she placed a spell on Zelia to give her a form to hide her while she is in the Earth Dimension things back fired a little bit. Or perhaps they turned out exactly like Verucca planned? She is a wise old wizardess and ordinarily manipulates things to be just as they should.

In any event, why did I choose the form of an ordinary orange tabby house cat as Zelia’s alter ego in the Earth Dimension? LOL, her earth cat form is my cat Peyton. And the scene where Maura is trying to get the cat off her doorstep at the hotel is inspired by real life events. This kitten would NOT go away no matter how much I ignored her. She was destined to be my kitty I guess.

Dar’kind Promises – Secret Three

The ancient wizardess Verucca Toadswizzler helps prepare Zelia for her mission to the Earth Dimension. Her meddling causes some startling  problems.

So, Where did I come up with the name Verucca Toadswizzler?  I’ve had several people comment on the interesting choice. Names are key in my stories. I will sometimes struggle for the right name. I’ve often written blurbs with Alphabet letters in place of names. It looks something like this blurb for an upcoming Amethyst Desire Collection story.

Bi-sexual lovers X and Y decide a little variety is the best gift they can give each other to celebrate their holiday yule. Girls just wanna have fun. All X and Y want for Christmas is a little cock. They suspect their neighbor, Z, can fit the bill in a big way. To be totally fair in how they’ll take turns with Mr. Lucky they purchase an amethyst necklace from Salynne’s Crystal’s and Thyme. Whoever has the necklace gets all their boy-toy’s attention. Then, they’ll switch. It’s only fair.

Z’s had his eye on the girls next door and he’s just the man to fill their fantasy and more. Z’s not a boy. He doesn’t plan on being a toy and never, never played it fair. He takes the necklace as the first prize of his seductive war with the pair. He’s willing to take prisoners and plans to have both the women in his bed on his terms. He’ll consider their release for good behavior, perhaps in time for summer.

Sometimes the names have to be carved out of the story. Other times they are right there in the front for me. I can’t always predict. Such is the case with Verucca Toadswizzler. Her name was not popping, squeaking or carving in any fashion. Then one day playing on Face Book I found an app…something like What is your wizzard name? I put in my name and the result was  — you guessed it Verucca Toadswizzler. LOL Secret revealed.

Dar’kind Promises – Secret Two

So the second secret in the count down for the creation of Dar’kind Promises was found in what type of love story it would be. I am so often drawn to the stories of never ending love. The physical and spiritual attraction that you are mine and will always be so draws me in.

Perhaps it is a consequence of living in a disposable modern society. ‘I want a love that will last’ is a popular song. However, how do we create a love story like that and retain free will? Also, where can we find enough conflict to keep the story interesting?

In Dar’kind Promises our two heroines are thrown together on a quest. They are compelled to be together to accomplish a task to try to uncover leads to find one of the Fae who disappeared.

Zelia is a feline shapeshifter. She’s called a ‘Tracker’ by her race. She has a human form and a very fierce predatory feline one. An ancient wizardess helps prepare her for blending in to the human Dimension by magically giving her a third form.

Maura is one of the race of Fae, a Dar’kind Fairy. Her life has been consumed searching for Ardith her Fae ‘sister’. She carries a burden of guilt for Ardith’s loss. She doesn’t allow time for distractions. Zelia constitutes a major distraction that she can’t resist. She is over loaded and over whelmed.

Zelia feels the connection to Maura first. She wants to reject the connection. She struggles to resist her attraction. Of course, without success.

I hope you will find the result an entertaining read.

Dar’kind Promises Secret One

I promises secrets about the creation of Dar’kind Promises. I hope I am up to the task. LOL. So the first thing that almost no one knows is: Why did I write Dar’Kind Promises?

It all started when I submitted my first story to Rebel Ink Press, “The Galloping Ghoul of Hockomock Swamp”. My editor sent back the customary revisions letter. She said some nice flattering things that made me feel really really good.  At the end she said:

“Although M/M is hot right now, I feel we’re on the cusp of a F/F break out. My proposal is this, please consider writing us something from that perspective, any length any sub-genre. We’d love to take a look. If anyone is capable of pulling it off, I believe you are. We’d also like to see more from you in the M/M category when you’re ready.”

That one sentence, “If anyone is capable of pulling it off, I believe you are.” challenged me. One of my goals in my m/m story was making the emotion and love transcend gender barriers. Could I do it in a f/f as well or was that too close to home?

Believe me, I did a whole lot of thinking before I could move. Eventually, ideas swirled around and I put together a blurb proposal to send in to RIP for consideration. The answer came back we love it, write it!

I wrote for almost a year before I felt I’d nailed it. The result is “Dar’kind Promises”.

Thirty Days Till “Dar’kind Promises”

I can’t believe it is only thirty days until “Dar’kind Promises” is released on 2/3/13. This is a short novelette length story. It is paranormal f/f erotic romance. Each day for the next thirty days, I am going to give you a teaser and tell you some background secret about the story. You will also have a chance to ask me ANY question you wish. It should be fun. I just hope I can fill thirty days, eek. You can see the offical blurb and cover in an earlier blog here. So happy reading and let the secrets begin. Tomorrow I will tell you how this story got started.

Teaser:

“No, this is better but still not completely right.” Verucca pulled a book from her cluttered worktable and flipped through pages. “Cat’s the size you are now are pets in the Earth Dimension. However, your color is all wrong. There are no house cats with the odd spotted pattern of your fur. Fuss and bother.”

She lay the book down on the table by her hip, studying a picture from the pages. “Now, that color will do nicely. I’ll just have to add another layer to the spell.” She paused to reassure her feline companion. “It’ll be fine.” She shrugged, reconsidering. “It should be fine.” She checked the book one more time, clapped her hands and pronounced, “Orange Tabby.” The dark spots on the animal’s creamy tan fur stretched, elongated, and ran into a pattern of strips swirling around becoming orangish color on the cat’s fur. The crone walked around the animal looking down at her handiwork. “Yes this will do, quite satisfactory, if I do say so myself.”

The cat spoke for the first time. “Sa-tis-factory?” she stressed each syllable. The animal’s voice sounded like it emanated from the bottom of a well, a remote, shrunken sound that modulated through a range of helium-induced tones. “You cronish hack! This is far from satisfactory.”

Dar’kind Promises Official Blurb

I’ve received the official blurb for “Dar’kind Promises”. I’m so excited. It is my third release with Rebel Ink Press.  Yet for the first time, this seems real.  This is my first lesbian F/F release.  My sisters in the ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’ motorcycle club have been asking me to write some F/F romance. So for all my lesbian friends here you go!

I actually have several lesbian romances coming out this year. “Beverly’s Secret”; “Phoenix Reborn”; More to come!

Happy Noel everyone!

Author Spotlight – Welcome Joanne C. Berroa

Hello everyone. I met Joanne C. Berroa through my Publisher, Rebel Ink Press. I was pleased to learn more about her to share with you guys today. I find her to be a very talented, interesting woman.  Here’s Joanne C. Berroa:

1.  For My Life, My Heart My favorite character is definitely Sebastian. He’s smart, sexy, and important. He’s a Colonel with the Continental Army and is in every way in command of himself and his men. He’s been hurt by his family and his ex-fiance, but he survived despite being outcast. He is protective of the heroine (Elena) and loves deeply and when he gives his heart, he is totally and forever committed. He’s the epitome of the ultimate man.

2.  I get inspired for my stories by imaging a time and place I would have liked to live. I think of myself as the heroine and then develop the ideal man for “me.”

3.  My late husband Paul R. Rothweiler was a multi-published author and we spent the days writing side by side. It was a very good time in my life.

4.  My Life, My Heart is a time travel romance, but could also be classified as a historical romance or contemporary romance. I write sensual romances, so I’d put the heat level at about 3.5.

5.  I began writing science fiction at age 12 and moved to romances at age 19. I always felt compelled to tell stories.

My Life, My Heart Blurb:

How does a brilliant and independent woman from the 21st century fall in love with a dashing colonel in the 18th century?  How can that love survive the test of time to live on through three centuries?

Elena Martin is a beautiful and intelligent time traveler who experiences the kind of love one only reads about in novels when she finds herself back in time during the American Revolution.  Sebastian Rogers is a ruggedly handsome colonel in the Continental Army who sweeps her off her feet.  Faced with the daunting decision to stay forever in the past or go forward in time to the present, she makes the ultimate decision for the sake of love to stay and forge a life with Sebastian.

But there are dark clouds on their horizon and Elena soon finds the need to return to her own century where she is strangely drawn to another man, Brett Darby, her Princeton University professor.  Brett harbors an unsettling secret—he can see and feel things that can’t be explained by reason or logic.  What powers do Elena and Brett hold over each other and why are their lives irrevocably intertwined?

My Life, My Heart is a novel that leaves the reader feeling good about love, life, and death.  It’s a story about endurance, hope, and a love so strong it defies time.

Rebel Elite HolidayBlog Hop Welcomes Nancy LaPonzina

Nardi_Point_CoverNardi Point by Nancy LaPonzina

  1. Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

Though Laurinda Elliot is the main heroine, I love Leyla Jo Piper her best friend … and so do so many readers! Leyla Jo is that great combination of heart friend, intuition, clinical expertise as a nurse practitioner practicing alternative health modalities. She’s African-American and when she finds prehistoric Native American artifacts on a home building site in the Nardi Point subdivision, her full heritage is revealed. In fact, because of her popularity, her story is expanded in the forthcoming sequel, Paths through the Garden!

2What inspires you for your stories?

Archaeology, metaphysical issues, alternative health remedies, nature, relationships, dreams, astrology. The title Nardi Point was presented to me in a dream. When I played with the arrangement of letters, I got Indian Port … and that’s exactly what Nardi Point is all about. So mysterious the way the muse works! I always hope to listen carefully.

3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.

I’m very sensitive to audio impressions. The sound of wind chimes wafting in the breeze can put me into an altered state.

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

My stories are contemporary women’s fiction, with a sweet or low heat level. In fact, Nardi Point was awarded the Chanticleer Books & Media, First Place 2012 Published Novel for Contemporary Women’s Fiction!

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

In grammar school I was writing short mystery stories and illustrating them. Nancy Drew was my biggest inspiration. Also, I have an addiction to paper, notebooks, and journaling.

I am thrilled to welcome Lila Munro as my guest today to talk about herself and her newest release “Assumed Calling”.  This is a synergistic day being 12/12/12.  There will never be another double digit triple date.

While I’ve never met Lila in person, we first met August 3, 2011 when she sent me my first official “Welcome to Rebel Ink Press” email that started me on the journey of setting up all the business end of the author/promoter business.  LOL. I’m so pleased to have her here for you to visit with today.

AND, don’t forget to follow the link on my page to compete for the drawing. We’re giving away a Kindle and a bunch of gift cards and a swag basket. Don’t miss out on your chance to win.

Welcome Welcome Lila. So tell us……

1. Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

Characters are like children for me. I love them all equally, but uniquely and I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite. However, believe it or not, the person I want to know more about the most is Dillon. He’s a secondary character who plays an enormous role in the protection of Nicki. He first appeared in book two of the Identity series, True Identity, as a budding Master in Steele Image, and my, my, my how Dillon did grow into a most sexy and intriguing man. He’s getting his own story when I kick off the Steele Image series next year.

2. What inspires you for your stories?

Everything. Living life in a military community lends to a host of ideas. My neighbors really should be nice to me, they never know where they might end up. Ha!

3. Tell us something no one else knows about you.

If I told it, everyone would know and it’d no longer be something no one knows. 😉 A girl has to retain some secrets. Right?

4. What genre classification would you put on your book and what would you consider the heat level of the romance?

This is most definitely a 5 flame read in the BDSM realm.

5. When did you start writing and what kicked off your passion to be an author?

I’ve been making up stories since before I could technically write. (I guess when you’re two they’re actually called lies—haha) Now I’m all grown and can call them books—surprising what semantics can do for a person’s reputation. J And the passion has always been there although at times has been neglected.

Thanks Eden for having me over today. My latest release is Assumed Calling, the final book in my Identity series…

200x300AssumedCalling

Like the beat of a primal drum whispering the rhythm of an ancient dance, the lifestyle calls…

At the seasoned age of fifty-six, Allen Bourke has resigned himself to the fact he’ll probably never find someone to top he can also love. While he’s had wives and lovers, none of them endured and he’s come to the conclusion the clock’s ticking and age is working against him. Then a very intriguing Nicki Cartwright pings on his radar at what Allen determines will be his last house party. He can’t help but notice while he and his friends are getting older, the players emerging on the scene are forever getting younger. Nicki’s no exception. Determined to resist the vibes humming between them, he only agrees to service her after his old friend, Kyle Montgomery, convinces him it’s entirely feasible. Then it’s brought to Allen’s attention who Nicki really is. Knowing their pasts are forever intertwined, as hard as he tries to ignore his heart, he finds himself yielding to the tides of fate.

Born to senatorial royalty, Nicki Cartwright has spent her entire life trying to shield her mother from her father’s wrath while drifting further and further into a world where panic is normal and anxiety is always on the edge of her reality. Tired of burning the candle at both ends and forever trying to live up to the picture of All-American perfection her father James Cartwright touts as his ace in the hole during election cycles, Nicki finds herself on the path of self-discovery in search of relief from the stressors continually swamping her mind. What she doesn’t expect is to find who she thought she was is truly just a shadow of the person she really is. And what scares her most is the fact Allen, the only person she thought she could trust, has been holding a secret since before she was born which could destroy her entire family.
